My 2011f2 was in for repair. I had 528 loaner for the week. Some thoughts:
1. This car has that e39 classic feel. 2. Typically, when you get into a new BMW, the car feels like a slot car. Strangely, I liked the steering of my big boat f2 over the 528. 3. The key difference between e39 540 and e39 528 was the '40 had more power, but the '28 had better balance and better steering. 4. I did not get a sense that the 2013 528 was better balanced. 5. The navigation system traffic information does not clearly display traffic on your current route from a scale of 1.0 mls. My 2011 f2 navigation clearly shows traffic on your current route. The new navigation white line (current route) obscures the green, yellow, red traffic conditions at a scale of 1.0 miles. Well, this stinks since I like to see the traffic ahead. 6. Why could I not open the trunk easily with my foot. I used to think the people on this board that could not open the trunk with their foot were just odd. But, I finally tried and got it 1/10 times. 7. When I had my 2003 e39, I would have killed for the technology in the 2013 528. 8. The 2013 528 had a HUD. At first, I thought the day white text of the HUD was boring. But, when I got back to my 2011 f2 HUD, the text was orange and it seemed dated and washed out. 9. The 2013 528 was fun to drive. The engine has plenty of power and its fun to keep at 80% power level. My f2 is usually run at 40% power and you never really get to push it. Having the 2013 528 work most of the time was funner to drive. The fuel economy was a welcome surprise. I don't know why anyone would not purchase ACC with collision monitoring. I love it in my f2 and I am sure the 528 has a better implementation of ACC since it uses radar and cameras. |

I also find the foot activation for the trunk difficult to use. It wasn't uncommon to see me swiping my foot several times under the rear bumper with no effect before I'd resort to using manual open. I've pretty much stopped trying....

Using the "in & out" kicking motion directly below the BMW badge on the boot works every time for me. It shouldn't be different from one car to another, maybe your sensor is faulty and you should get the dealer to look at it.

I may have them check it out. I don't think I've tried the in-and-out mottion -- I'll give that a try.

My only real concern was the steering. It didn't feel better than my older boat. But, the technology is awesome. I remember think the e39 was awesome because it could call for help in an accident. Well, that depended on you having the BMW mobile phone and having it plugged in and turned on. Now, BMW assist is always ready. However, I still don't understand why BMW's connected drive feels like you are on a 56k modem. |
