Help needed on muffler valves; M5 mufflers on 550

Hi, so i put M5 mufflers on my 550. For the first few days, all was good - played around with valves tied open and hoses plugged vs connected; and decided i like it quieter - ie with the hoses connected and letting the valves open up at higher load/RPM.

Well, a few days in, i notice the valves are open all the time. Idling, cruising at 40mph (can tell because of the slight drone), etc.

What would cause the valves to stay open? They are closed when the car is shut off. As i understood the system, they are opened on demand by a vacuum pump (???), and therefore should NOT be open all the time, especially at idle.

Looking for ideas...

Add a resonator. Reduces drone.

Sorry, not as worried about the noise/drone - wondering what would cause the valves to be open at idle. I dont think this is normal... Thanks.

You stated that the valves are closed when shut off. So that scenario is no vacuum. When you turn the car on, there is vacuum and the valves are open. Sounds backwards from what is suppose to happen. So unplug the vacuum hose to see if no vacuum source will give you the desired "closed" position. Otherwise , if its the electronic portion controlling the vacuum source then maybe a switch can give you the results you want on demand. I don't have schematics but it has to be similar to the 335i platform.

I am trying to figure that out also my lines are not hooked up at all and I did not wire valves open. Is car louder with them hooked up or not. Not sure why my shop did not hook them up he mentioned he needed some t taps or something and it was late on Friday. So what's the consensus here vacuum line hooked up or not?
