Brake life.

I have a 2011 535xi that I purchased in December. I have about 7,500 miles on it already and I checked out my service info today. The car says I have 25,000 miles left on my front brakes, but the rear brakes only have around 7,000 miles until they require service. If that is correct, I'll basically need new rear brakes every year. What's everyone else's estimated service mileage? Also, don't the front brakes usually require service before the rears?

Doesn't make sense. Likely sensor is defective or has move out of slot.

Others have had issues with the service intervals changing from long to short and back to long again for no reason.

Bottom line: computer issue, not brake issue. Don't worry about changing pads, worry why your computer is telling you hogwash.

I looked at my service life a couple weeks ago and noticed the same thing. Rear pads will be due berfore the fronts, which in reality is not the case. My last two BMW's rear pads lasted twice as long as the fronts.

I'm wondering if BMW changed something....like thinner rear rotors to save weight, or thinner pads as a result of the motorized parking brakes. Or it could be that the mileage due will "freeze" for a long while and only start back up again after more miles accumulate. Something to keep an eye on but am not too concerned.

Many 3-series users get through rear brakes much faster than the fronts. Our latest cars eat the rear's due to DSC/TC intervention. Harder you drive, the faster the rear wear will accelerate, even if you don't brake hard.

The rear brake pads countdown on my car has stopped at 3500 km and has remained so for a couple of thousand kilometres. The front brake pads countdown is still at 60 000 km. The odometer is currently at 46 000 km, second oil service due in 2000 km.

Agree -- my car has only 11k on it, but "Oil Change Required" since 32k miles and "Inspection due" since 22k miles. Just curious what other surprises the gremlins in the computer have for me in the future.
