528i N20 custom dual exhaust and AFE air filter (using any stock/aftermarket exhaust)
F10 528i cars have this right "bucket" compartment that impedes installation of dual exhaust system. Most of 528i dual aftermarket exhaust only have a pipe and tips set-up on the right side (i.e.. Remus, Eisenmann, etc). That being said, I am using a 535i exhaust system and modifying the right bucket.
I highly suggest to prep your car before going to the exhaust shop for the installation. Grab some drill bits, tin snips, and dremel and follow this easy DIY. PROS: 1. Sportier sound 2. Lighter weight than stock exhaust (even with 2 exhaust cans) 3. Better throttle response 4. Right side bucket still remains 5. Can use any 535i/550i/M5 aftermarket or stock exhaust system, its cheaper too! 6. Looks sexier with the dual rear diffuser CONS: 1. Had to buy a resonator that acts as a Y-pipe separately 2. Difficulty in taking off the bucket rivets DIY: 1. Hardware - All purchased from local store. Specs in the picture. 2. Access the right bucket - It is self-explanatory to remove the panels. Remove the luggage tray/battery cover and open-up the interior quarter panel. 3. Drill the rivets x6 - Drill the rivet heads first then use a prying tool to remove the rivets. Use dremel as necessary. Slide out the right bucket aside. 4. Use template for the bucket cover - I used a flat plastic container lid. This material made it easy in cutting the dimensions and hole positions. 5. Try fitment - install the panels without installing or tightening the hardware. 6. Finalized with the tin - Cut it, trim the sharp edges, drill 6 holes, and spray paint. I used an undercoating rubberized paint to protect from corrosion. I recommend using Dynamat to sound proof your work. 7. Install back together 8. It should look like this 9. Now go to the exhaust shop and install your new DUAL exhaust… VIDEO: MORE PICS TO COME: Before and After STOCK AVAILABLE DUAL AFTERMARKET EXHAUST SYSTEMS (using single exhaust and tips) M-SPORT CONVERSION and MORE Last edited by sgt_gman2005; 05-21-2014 at 08:59 AM.. |

AFE PRO-DRY S drop-in air filter
From previous experience on the e90, i also installed the AFE PRO-DRY S drop-in air filter in my F10 N20. Initial observation is better "intake" ssshhhh sound and throttle response.
1. I recommend using the dry over oiled air filter to avoid oil contaminants on the MAF 2. Using 15mm, remove bolt(s) from LH strut 3. Unclip fasters x3 and remove dirty stock air filter 4. Compare stock vs aftermarket filters, verify size and fitment 5. Vacuum and clean air box 6. Do the reverse for reinstallation of hardware Last edited by sgt_gman2005; 05-02-2014 at 07:23 AM.. |

Another version of N20 dual exhaust, vortex muffler was used as the resonator and also acts as a Y-pipe.
vortex mufflers are unique due to the combination of chambered and straight through perforated design. the intent is to have a simpler system (resonator and megan mufflers only) for flow efficiency. heres a review from Stacey David: Last edited by sgt_gman2005; 05-21-2014 at 07:05 AM.. |

It's been a while and here are some updated mods for the F10 N20 crowd:
1. BMS JB4 Tuner - best bang for the buck! I have been running this mod for more than a year now without any issues. The key are to install stealthy clean, taking time, and reading the installation instruction. To test detection, I did not even remove the JB4 when I went for service a few months ago. This product is bullet proof. I drove from Arizona, Texas, and California straight without any reliability issues. The Sport + mode is definitely fun! CAN YOU SPOT WHERE THE BMS JB4 IS? No wires dangling, no conspicious aftermarket box in the engine bay! 2. LCI M-Sport steering wheel with paddle shifter - all I can say…its a plug and play mod! Be patient in ebay, good deals everytime. http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=948806 3. Coding - with the help of MWPos, he coded my vehicle with steering wheel retrofit with additional features - paddles, Sport + mode, remote-trunk, wheel temp, and many more! Nice very nice!
sgt_gman2005 JB4 with what other mods? I have Racechip (which is a in between piggyback of stage1 and stage2) it provides stage2 like power but it doesnt have the control that JB4 has over the car but it ends up being an easier install and removal for me. I also seen MPG improvement versus stock hwy or stock aggressive driving, MPG is better overall now and no my car is not new, got 11k on the car when i bought it and now 17k. Only 3k on the piggyback otherwise fully stock car. Going to install BMC Air-Filter on my next oil change (3k miles to go) and waiting to see when I test drive a ECU Flash tuned car because it looks like the way I'll be heading.

I realize that this post is old, but were there any performance gains from adding this exhaust set-up? What diffuser is in your picture? Anyone with info regarding my questions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

As far as the bumpers and diffuser, I used OEM front bumper and OEM M5 diffuser. The rear bumper is ebay special. I did some minor trimming at the back. Be careful in buying the front one since you need the front lower bracket to successfully retro fit the Msport bumper. Follow my other thread regarding bumpers (disregard the E60 exhaust set-up, this Vortex and Megan exhaust is better). http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=779466 |
