Transmission Failure?
Just got the dreaded transmission failure message (2012 550iX, 70k miles), engine running very rough. Stopped the car and restarted it, everything is fine now. Is this symptomatic of a temporary, one off, software glitch or do I need to start preparing for a major transmission failure repair?

Having it service checked it would be wise? They could at least see the error codes of the event and diagnostic data and already have an idea if its something minor or terribly bad!
I have had drivetrain malfunction error in the past, car would suddenly go into low power mode (drive moderately), a car stop and restart would clear the problem and full power available again. Some two weeks later I brought it to service (after 2-3 malfunction repeats), it was in fact a turbo boost sensor that was going faulty and repair was around $300'ish! No issues after 10K now! |

Update - Not A Transmission Failure?
Took the car to the dealership yesterday (BMW of Schereville) and they diagnosed two injector failures and two associated fouled plugs. Must say, I am a bit skeptical in view of the fact this is not a "Transmission Failure" IMHO. However, on the way to the dealership I did get a CEL warning in addition to the transmission failure warning. I collect the repaired car latter today, we shall see.

I got this same error just a month into my brand new 2012 520d back when I took delivery. After much investigation and software resets etc, BMW ended up shipping a new transmission to my dealer, who replaced the faulty one. Yes, the whole damn thing.
While I hope you don't have the same issue, be prepared for the worst. FWIW, the error never occurred again.

All OK Now
Got the car back 3 days ago, running fine now. Looks like failed injectors really can trigger the "Transmission Failure" warning. Will report back in another week.

I wonder if they cover fuel injectors if they fail after being replaced in CCP if you're out of warranty. |

No Unfortunately
I asked the same question of my SA, "I thought fuel injectors were covered by the CCP?". Apparently not, during the CCP the fuel injectors are examined to see if they are part of a batch/model that need replacing. They are not automatically replaced. Mine were deemed OK and not replaced.
