Confused by the Lines
I'm looking at a 2014 F10 (coming from a 2010 E60) and I'm confused by the lines. I read somewhere that all 2014 535's were one of either Luxury, Sport or Modern Lines. After running the VIN decoder on the one I'm interested in it doesn't show any of them. Is there also a base 335 like the base 328 in 2014?

If you mean 535 rather than 335 yes there was a 2014 base model for each of the 5 series and there was an added price premium for each Line, which were just packages of options.
From the 2014 price list the base price of a 2014 535i was $55100. Adding the Luxury Line ZLL or Modern Line ZML to a 535 was a $2100 cost. M-Sport Line ZMM was $3150. My 2014 535ix has Luxury Line and the VIN decoder has a line item PS72 Luxury Line (with option S3DZ for the fender Luxury insignia to be deleted), and the individual options in the Luxury Line are also listed, such as 19" wheels. ZLL was an ordering code, not a build code. I'm guessing that most cars ordered for stock were ordered with Lines that would show in the VIN decoder list but a "base" car surely could be special ordered without a Line although I'm guessing that ordering all of the Line items individually might cost more than just ordering the Line package, and maybe some items were only available if you ordered a Line.

Thanks. Yes I meant 535 (now corrected). Although this car is fairly lightly optioned, it has most of the stuff I need and incredibly low miles (14k), The only other thing I can't find clearly is whether this one will either play music over bluetooth or has CarPlay compatibility, a nice to have but not a deal-killer. It has options 6NS and 609, but I haven't found detailed descriptions of those. Also has BMW Apps& Connected Drive, but those just seem like expensive annual subscription things that aren't all that useful.

6NS is smartphone integration so yes it'll play music from a Bluetooth phone -- or through the USB connection. With 6NR BMW Apps and 6AK ConnectedDrive it'll play Spotify or Pandora music from your phone but no CarPlay for 2014s. With ConnectedDrive you can also do things like lock/unlock your car, flash lights or sound horn remotely from a BMW app on your phone. CD subscriptions are optional and the only one I chose is realtime traffic integration for $49 year.
609 is NBT pro navigation which became standard in 2014.

Is there a difference between suspensions with the Luxury Line vs others? do they use the same springs & struts / shocks?
excluding M & dynamic handling options |

Luxury Line on a 535 adds sport leather steering wheel, upgraded leather interior, 19" wheels, LED fog lights, and anthracite wood trim.

Suspension is the same. Only m-sport RWD has different suspension, unless the car has the $3500 Dynamic Handling Package.

How do you know if you have the Dynamic Handling Pkg? I have the 704 suspension, is Dynamic Handling a separate pkg altogether?

Be happy. 704 is the M-Sport suspension (RWD 535 & 550 only) - stiffer & lower than stock, nonadjustable. Dynamic Handling Package is a $3500 option of adjustable shocks, active roll bars, and standard (soft) springs, and shows up on VIN decoders as 2VA Adaptive Drive. You can't have both: if an M-Sport is configured with DHP, it replaces the 704 sport suspension.
