Wheels

Shop replaced a tire. They put the lug bolts in 3/4 way for all.

Then, took power tool and tightened clockwise.

Is this okay?

I thought you had to tighten like a drum, keep tightening closest opposite lug until all completed.

Will this matter?

If they used a power tool like a ratchet gun they should be set to torque so it stops and any given settings.

I wouldnt worry about about lug bolts. they are pretty strong and can withstand large torque from impact guns. Only problem i see here is if its too tight, you wont be able to take it off yourself if you decide the take the wheel off for any reason.

just be careful if you have those locking nut bolts cuz the key will break and you are SOL.

I was more concerned with the wheel not being mounted cleanly since the bolts were tightened sequentially.

They should be tightened in a star pattern. Probably isn't a huge harm but I would redo it.

Yes, I've always heard so too.

As mentioned should be tightened in a star pattern with the wheel off the ground and flush to the car. Torque on F10 wheels should be set to 103ft lbs.

I would definitely redo it, and look for another shop. My tire shop always torque the lug nuts by hand, they only uses the machine gun to remove.

Okay, great advice all

One last q:

What's the cheapest socket device I can buy that has a torque limiter?

Tough to tighten the lugs when the wheels are suspended off the ground......

I agree completely. My shop lowers the car until the wheels are touching but not fully weight-bearing. This prevents the wheel from turning using a torque wrench by hand in the aforesaid star pattern..

Thanks for this info. I assumed it was 88 ft lbs just like it was for my old E90...

The F10 has 14mm bolts vs the 12mm bolts on the e90, that might be the reason your the 103 torque on the f10.
