ED - Redelivery problem
Ok guys, Here is my situation. Please chime in with any comments or suggestions...
I placed an order for 2011 550 M-Sport back in May and set up a Euro Delivery. Here is my timeline... 6/18/11 - I went in and signed the paperwork at Steve Thomas BMW 7/1/11 - Picked up the car in Munich. 7/6/11 - Dropped off the car in Vienna, Austria 7/22/11 - Car arrived at Bremerhaven 8/3/11 - Car Finally sets sail on the Don Juan 8/27/11 - Car arrives in Port Hueneme It is now Sept 13 and I still do not have the car!! I have heard there are some labor disputes going on at the Port and coupled with that my car got a scratch on the bumper that they are now fixing I was told that the car will be transported from the port on Friday - 9/16/11and trucked to the dealer (15 miles away). Which means i wont get the car until Monday (since they have to do a saftey inspection and canot do this on Saturday) All the while I am making my lease payments of close to $1000 per month. I made my initial driveoff payment, the second payment is covered by BMW, then I made the third payment in August and now a 4th payment will be due on 9/18/11. Keep in mind this is only a 24 month lease and I will only have 20 months to enjoy the car. I really feel like I am getting ripped off here and I hardly see the value in doing a ED in the future. 11 weeks later and I still do not have my car. I have made payments on something I dont even have possension of. I have contacted BMW ED Sales dept and they said 10 weeks is normal but I cant believe that. When I ordered the car I was told 6-8 weeks max. I have been corresponding via email with the ED sales dept but I am so fed up with this process and getting ripped off that I dont even want the car anymore. Am I justified to have BMW reimburse me for at least one monthly payment or what is the best plan of attack? Any responses will be greatly apprciated.

For anybody doing ED in the future, do yourself a favor and end your trip in Munich or preferably Bremerhaven. I had to learn this the hard way. Member MBrown1003 has already got his car and he did ED one month after me. He dropped off in Bremerhaven and his car got on a boat a few days after. Smart man!

I would say if you are on the west coast, dont do ED. You probably end up paying more overall. Sure the Welt is great and the roads are amazing, but waiting 2.5months and paying while you wait?? Is that something you are prepared to do? Get one off the lot or order one. Ordering takes 6-8 weeks to get to you but you are not paying for it until it arrives to the dealer.

I did think about the pro's and con's and it is not very appealing to pay for the car when it's not in your physical possession.
Being that I have family in Europe and going there anyway. Its pretty cost effective. Maybe finance instead of a lease would be better? |

Does BMW always pay the 2nd payment? I haven't heard about that nor do I recall seeing that on any paperwork.

Guys any suggestions on what to do? Do I have a valid beef with BMW?

I droped off my car at the Loginout site at Munich. They transported it to Bremerhaven. It was a week from dropoff to embarkation. It was TWO weeks from arrival in NJ until transport to my dealer. The car sat at the VPC (New Jersey for me) for two weeks. During that time, they replaced the clutch (I still don't have a good explanation as to why), and they repaired the rim that I curbed. The metal work was excellent, but the repainting is horrible. It almost looks like they used a white filler and didn't paint it silver. And, somehow, there are large splatters of the white material on other spokes. When the sales director at my dealer saw it, he wasn't too impressed either. He's already making arrangments to address this. Here's my timeline: July 21: Signed paperwork at dealer; made first lease payment August 1: Delivery in Munich August 6: Dropped off car at Munich airport August 8: "Booked" (per W-W website) August 12: "Received at terminal" (per W-W website) August 14: "Loaded on vessel" (per W-W website) August 24: "Discharged" (per W-W website, and this wasn't posted on the site until about two weeks later) September 10: Car arrived at dealer September 12: I drove back from vacation on Cape Cod to get it: 2.5 hours in the M3 + 2.5 hours in the 550i. That's a good day on vacation! So, I was out of the car for five weeks. BimmerMun's car was on the same ship as me, and he got his over a week before I got mine. I know that the ED cars take longer to clear Customs. I guess they do a more thorough inspection since the car has been "in the wild", but I do agree that they should to do something to make you whole for the time.

hard to believe that your car is caught in this delay mode. I get the delay due to where you droppped your car, but the delay since it hit Port Hueneme is unacceptable and you should receive some kind of compensation.
what des your CA say? I would imagine that there must be some lee-way to compensate for this inconvenience of being stuck at the port for nearly a month.

I got blown off by the head of the ED sales dept. They basically told me there was nothing they could do and she started to blame my CA for telling me it would be a 6-8 week delivery. She was actully quite rude and told me to take it up with my CA (which I will, when and if I ever get my car).

It was 10 weeks after my Munich drop off, for redelivery. I financed my F10, hence considered the ED route. Also, had the wheel issue and had to argue with my CA, as he said it was a "BMW courtesy" to fix it. When I finally got it, all was good & fixed...

Wow 10 weeks! And you are on the east coast. Did you get any compensation for the lost time? East coast should take no more than 6-7 weeks.

No, and it was stuck in customs for 2 weeks.
On the upside, we had never been to Europe, did get to see 4 countries (Munich/Lindau/Fussen Germany, Salzburg Austria, Zurich Switzerland & Venice Italy) in 8 days and 1500 miles |

There is no stipulation on how much they pay but I'm pretty sure they pay it regardless as long as you are doing ED.

Got it yesterday! They are a great dealer. They are going to have their marketing manager try to get me some reimbursement from BMW. Loving the car so far! Getting it tinted today and next week all the mods will be on.

When did you actually order the car? How much time was it between when the dealer placed the order and when you picked up in Germany?
