Adding paddles may have been a mistake...

All I do is downshift and floor it now

Sorry gas mileage. Pretty sure this is going to cut it in half haha.

I love my paddles as well. Yes, I would have loved a manual trans car, right up until I was stuck on the 405 at rush hour - that's when I am perfectly happy with blipping paddles I had paddles on my E60 550, and loved them, now I love them again.

My car doesn't have paddles but when my car went into service the loaner they gave me to use was a 2016 //M 235i xdrive and it had paddles. Couldn't wait to figure how to use them. Needless to say I wasn't impressed with the paddle shifting! I think maybe I'm old school and my hand has to be down by the shifter with one hand on the steering wheel! Just Felt awkward to me shifting from the steering wheel holding with two hands on the wheel. I mean it was cool but nothing to be excited about! I do miss driving a manual as that feeling of smashing the gas pedal to the floor and ripping through the 5 speed short shifter from my Turbo Charged Integra from my illegal underground racing days! Hence my screen I'd

Can you install the paddles on a wheel that doesn't have them? The plugs for the wiring are built into the wheel already?

I have the paddles in my car as well but to be honest I hardly use it. I don't like how it still auto shifts while I am using the paddles or gear lever.

If it was like the DCT in the ///Ms where it stays in manual mode then that would be a different story.

Yes, they are rather rare. It will be either very easy or nearly impossible to sell one day. 😀

If you put the shifter to Sport, THEN manual shift (shifter or paddles), it won't auto shift until you put it back to D.

Indeed, it'll sit there bouncing off the limiter until you flick the paddle or the shifter.

Too much lag between the time you hit the paddle and when the car actually reacts. It's sort of dim-whitted to be honest. I never use the paddle shift option. Sport mode isn't bad, at least it's learned my driving habits and holds a gear when I want it to, but its def no DCT..

I've only noticed a lag in shift response if you wind the engine up to 7000 before you hit the paddle. IE its already hanging fuel cut.

If you grab it at 6500-6700 it snaps up the next gear near instantly.

I always drive like this or rather this is my order of operation, but my car still shifts automatically when WOT. I have SAT and wonder if there is a specific code that needs to be updated? When I had my D2 S8, I had to code it for the same thing so that it would hold gears in tiptronic mode.

Im a Manual guy. I like loaners to try the "Paddles" and really have tried to like them.
It might be my future so its not like I'm "THAT GUY" who is old school and move forward. I do very much like "Sport" mode on the steptronic and just happy to do that. Maybe its not having a clutch for torque transfer and instead the Automatic's tourque converter that makes it more like a video game. Hey, im not here to take away anyones joy. I live in an area where im not stuck in traffic, but if I were I'd for sure drive an automatic. My wife's 2015 Audi Allroad has "Tiptronic" and I will use the manualish feature in the mountains or in the snow. Its pretty bad when I go to clutch in her car and hit the brake!!! Big adrenaline rush!!!!

I just tried out the sport mode manual on my 535i auto and was not entirely impressed. Not sure if it was because the temps outside were 100 degrees plus and got turbo lag. The shifts felt a little unnatural because it doesn't necessarily rev match like my M3 SMG does. I'll have to stick to my original statement that it is nothing like the DCT or SMG. I'm seriously now considering a manual M5 especially since this will be the last model to have the option.
