Shutters behind the grille.
Hi! Guys, What are these shutters behind the grille do? Are they open while driving or stay closed all the time.

Yes it does, and BMW says it's a good thing (less air drag than forcing the air through the radiator). Also, be prepared the grilles only open up when the engine is really - I mean really - seriously warm. After half an hour drive on a motorway at speeds reaching 200 km/h, I checked and they were still closed.
In many hour trip, I inspected them when stuck in a traffic jam under July sun; they were wide open.

Is this on lci models only? Just checked mine before starting it and they appear to be open. Not sure if they even look like they can close. I have a 2012 550 m sport if that helps.

Some F10 have the un-motorized permanently open vents, not sure what determines which F10 gets the active shutters.
