Thumbs up F11 530d 2012

Hi all,

It's been a while since I've posted here, but I'm back with a new acquisition: f11 530d 2012. I will soon put some pictures of the car and also the list of options in the new cars section of the forum, but until then, I have some questions.

I have previously owned back in 2007 a 2004 e46 touring 320d, and after that, in 2010 a 2006 e91 320d. Now, I finally feel completed with this f11 530d 2012.

I just hope that I have posted this new thread in the right section, but if not, I apologize and I respectfully ask a Moderator to move it.

Here are the questions:

1. The container/reservoir for the windshield & headlights washer fluid has decreased its capacity. In the old e46 and also e91, I was putting around 6-7 liters, but in this ... at about 4 - 4.5 liters, it was full. Why? BMW decreased the capacity because ... ? Overall weight of the car? Or is it another ... recipient somewhere ?

2. Having the Comfort Access option, and enjoying that gimmick with the foot under the back bumper, I wanted to ask if there is the possibility to open the whole trunk, not just the window/glass. Also, ca I set the height of it, because now it opens about 15 cm, and doesn't go up, only if I touch it and give it a nudge. Is this option available also at this 2012 model or only at the facelift?

3. If I have a CD or DVD with mp3's, and the music/files are in different folders, grouped by genre for example, CAN I SEE the folders like in the old CCC iDrive? I just looked yesterday and I couldn't find any folders.

4. How ca I see the remaining disk space and also, how can I delete files from the HDD? I have noticed that if I insert a disc I have the option of transferring into the HDD the files, but can I delete them after?

5. At my ex e91 from 2006 which had the Professional iDrive System (CCC), at the climate tab, I had three types: Soft, Medium and Intensive. In this f11, when I press AUTO, I can control the fan speed (5 speeds). This is the same logic, only they moved it here? If I want to go Intensive, I just put the fan at maximum? It is really non intuitive if you ask me. They have almost destroyed the concept of Climatronic/AUTO. It is the same if having old school AC.

6. Voice command --> I finally have it in English, not in German. I've searched the Internet a lot but with no results for a list with ALL the commands. I have only found a short list of 30-40 commands, standard from 2009, at the beginning of the CIC. I would like to find those tricky/shortcut commands like '20 km' which zooms out your map, at 20km, not using the scroll. Some 5 or 6 commands like these would come very handy sometimes, like 'destination - Home'.

7. I have the ambient lighting option at my car which translates in having white LEDs on the outside door handles, and an orange light in the interior (below the trims, in the pockets of the doors, at the feet). I remind you that the car is from 2012 and I would like to know if I can change the color of the light in blue, purple, white, etc? I've seen this but it was on a 2014 model, so facelift. On this 2012 ... it's not so customizable?

8. I have the automatic sport gearbox but without the Launch Control option. Again, I have a friend with almost the same car, but from 2014 which has the Launch Control option AS STANDARD. The dealer told him so, when he configured the car. He has told him that all models with SPORT automatic gearbox come standard with launch control option. Also, to check if you have it or not, you just have to search in the owner's manual: 'launch control', if you get no results ... you don't have it. Well ... I get no results. Did it became standard only from the facelift version ... or I also have it, but it's missing in the manual? And yes, I've tried to enable it ... but no results either.

9. I have a transparent button under my inside mirror, a 'clown nose'. Does this mean that I have an alarm system? I didn't notice to flicker when I lock the car ... but the question is: do all f1x have the 'clown nose' or only the ones with an alarm?

Hope I didn't write too much and thank you in advance for the answers.

6, if you have the paper manual for the car, they are all listed in the back.
If not , they might be in the manual on idrive - not sure though never checked my self.

7. I have a 2012 model as well and ambient colour is not changeable. again believe that's a 2014 LCI feature.

8. Yes 99.9% sure launch control is only on LCI models and later.

with the auto button pressed, the fan speed sets the intensity. think of it more like the maximum speed the fan could run at.(depends on what it needs to do)
Its still automatic so if cooling the car down it will run to the maximum you have set and then slow down as it reached the desired temperature.
Set it say the middle bar and see if that how you ike it and amend to your preferences. I have mine on the middle 3 most of the time, sometimes 4 if a particular hot day. It is arguably not that intuitive as certainly not like my previous E39 which you simply set fan speed to auto.

Ok, so you are saying that if I set it at minimum for example in a very hot day, it should go up, by itself to higher ... rpm/level to reach the desired temp? If so, is that also displayed, or it is still on the first bar?

4) Click the option button, or push the iDrive wheel to the right, and the should be some option of managing the HDD. And you can delete files on the HDD.

9) I have the alarm, but then the nose is red, and blinking red when the car is locked.

re the climate control

the fanspeed settings governs the upper limit of the fanspeed. thats the best way to think of it.
its still automatic so a hot dayvwill mean the fanspeed will be up to the limit you have set until it cools down and then the fanspeed wil slow down.
depends how noisy / blowy you want it to be.
hopefully that helps to explain it.

With reference to the aircon it operates exactly as your previous car with soft, medium and intensive. But rather than three levels of intensity you now have five

At the first question I found the answer in the manual, it has 5l . The reason that BMW decided to lower the capacity is beyond my understanding. At least they could have increased it for the models with headlights washers and the tourings.

Enjoy your 530, just don't expect too much down a twisty B road.....
Just back from uk to south of France holiday, our F11 530d Ms was awesome, three figure cruising, ave speed 70 ( inc uk ) with 39.8mpg over 2200 miles. Very impressed, in its element.
Ours is 2013 and ambient colour is fixed, orange I think ?
