Exclamation Heated Seats Too hot?

So, just took the 535i to Sonoma and decided to use the seat warmers. Put it at 3 lights and it got extremely hot almost to the point that it burned a little. I looked closer at my Nappa leather and it occured to me the wrinkles in the seat resemble the coils of the seat warmer. I bought my car CPO and figured it was just the wear and tear after 2500 miles of use... Anyone else seat warmers get too hot or has caused issues to their Nappa leather?

Normal, my 2016 is the same way. So far I have been using the lowest setting only.

You can always go into the iDrive menu (Setting -> Climate - Seat Heating) and adjust the balance between the seat back and the seat bottom. I have the seat back set higher due to some back issues I have. I do agree these suckers do get hot compared to cars I have had in the past, but when its really cold outside, its a welcome relief!!

I generally only use them a 3 to take the chill off then down to 1 and eventually off. They do get extremely hot.

This is my first car with heated seats and steering wheel. Just got to use them and I love it! I do turn off both and am amazed at how soon I need to :-)

Still early in the winter season though, but man, there are so many features on this car that make me know what I cannot do without on my next.

I don't even use 3 for a quick warm-up, nothing more than 2. 1 is what I run it at long-term. And yah, you can adjust the bottom and back, which I like a lot as a feature.

I love how fast the seats heat up in my 5er. Compared to my old F30, the seats get hotter much faster. I never have to turn the heat level up to 3 in the 5er where as in my F30, I always had to start out at level 3. I will usually set the seat heat to level 2 when I get in and within a short period I can lower it to level 1. After 5 to 10 minutes, I will shut the seat heat off entirely.

I hope the heated seats in the new G30 5er are just as effective.

Yeah I think this is pretty normal, mine get crazy hot. I'm completely fine with it, the temp. was in the teens the other day. This is my first one with the heated steering wheel, coming in very clutch this winter

Hi
Mine seats get very hot quickly on the highest setting. Like others have said I have keep it on maximum five minutes and the drop it down to two. After ten minutes of journey commencing it's on one or even off. And this is in our winter season. It really does heat up that quickly even compared to the cars main heating system. I have felt a burn once when I left it on the highest setting for over five minutes.

Hope that helps.

Until now, I thought that the Hot Lava setting was due to the Nappa leather in mine being thinner than the buffalo skin in my previous BMWs. I guess the 5's seat heaters are just more powerful and at least there's two lower settings.

I'm a naturally cold person and even for me they get a bit warm. After about 10 minutes I take it down 2 notches.

I love the heat output on the F10 heated seats, I occasionally suffer back problems and these are great for getting the back muscles warmed through on the way to work. I tend to run the heating on a cool setting and use the seat heaters on full during the winter

My wife's new F48's seat heaters get nowhere near as warm as the F10's. They barely get as warm as level two on the F10... Will get BMW to check this out when it goes in for it's first service

Sounds normal - adjust the balance from thighs to your back.

They are hotter 'n hell - the intensity is quickly decreased to 2, then 1.

Hotter than my 328.

EDIT: Adjusted again to more heat to my back - legs in general must be more sensitive to heat.

Suggest trying 3-4 clicks towards the back.

FYI, the temps for the 3 settings can be coded to your preferences. You can dial in what temps you want for each of the 3 settings in 2 degree increments: 1 from 77-99; 2 from 90-111; and 3 from 100-122. You can code front and rears separately, as well as the arm rests.

Thats super helpful for those needing finer tuning.
