New Front Brake Pads
The car is showing that some new front brake pads are required in approx 4300 miles - fair enough. In previous cars that I have had, I have always changed the discs too. What are peoples thoughts on the F10: New discs, or remain with the same discs when putting new pads on?
New fitted front pads from a BMW specialist are only £183. So not going to break the bank with new pads. Cheers.

Hi
This is a timely thread as I was about to ask about alternative pads and discs front and rear rather than BMW OEM. I'm seeking out good quality alternatives for a 530d F10 2010 model - I can find Brembo pads for the F10 but I've yet to locate discs. If anyone can recommend high quality brakes and discs that would be appreciated. For your car I can see that BMW pads fitted are around £213 - whether your discs need replaced or not will be dependent upon usage/mileage but they should last at least for two sets of pads. For the additional £30 you keep full BMW service history. You could always ask the dealer to match the independent. Last edited by gtthree; 09-10-2015 at 01:05 PM.. |

No need to change disks if it's the first pad change, as quoted above you get at least two pad changes out of them...

This is a timely thread indeed as my discs appear to have had a hard life before I owned the car. Anyone had a quote for discs and pads supplied only from BMW?
What about OEM from ECP or GSF and the likes? May go and look now.

I've tried the disks and pads from ECP previously and wasn't happy with them, pads kept squealing (despite being removed and refitted twice) and the disks warped very quickly. However this was on an E46 I had some years back...
You sure that they are OEM and not OR?

I have used EBC discs and pads on my Audi TT and on the rear pads of my 520D, very pleased with them. They do various grade but I just use the oem spec ones. Very easy to fit and reset the codes. Anyone with the minimum of mechanical knowledge can fit them.

Hi
I eventually ordered genuine discs and pads from Germany for my F10 530d. They cost c£360 delivered, when I purchased at the start of April 2016. And included the wear indicator cable. I purchased them from ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1517993511...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT the seller was: langeautoteile He has a shop on there and sells genuine BMW parts and alternatives. The delivery was very good, less than a week. The part numbers for those of you with a F10 530D are: Discs - 34 11 6 775 277 Pads - 34 11 6 850 885 Wear sensor - 34 35 6 791 958 (this part supplied by Langautoteile was not genuine BMW) I also separately ordered new disc retaining bolts and wear sensor from Costwold BMW before I received the discs, pads and unexpected wear sensor from Germany. Disc bolt part number - 34 21 1 161 806. These cost roughly £1 each and you will need four. The genuine wear sensor part is - 34 35 6 791 958 and costs roughly £27 from Cotwold. The pads upon inspection are actually manufactured by Jurid but marked as BMW and in a genuine BMW box. All in it will cost me £364 + fitting to replace the front discs, pads and wear sensor. I've yet to have them fitted but I'll be using TGMSport in Fleet who will also be able to reset idrive service indicator. BMW dealerships in Edinburgh and the South East have quoted me £730-£750. Hope this helps. Last edited by gtthree; 04-10-2016 at 04:04 PM.. |

Same here, been quoted £242 for front pads fully fitted whilst I wait, I think it is worth the little extra to keep it with BMW, then I throw it back at them if it isn't perfect and they sort it!

Well you hadn't tried Carbon Lorraine's then, now they can throw out some dust, but the bite, the bite, absolutely sensational!

It's a shame it doesn't cling to the pads with as much tenacity as it clings to the wheels because it can be murder to clean off if it's been left for a few days

I got a set of Meyle rear pads for my F10, been over 6 months now. The disc didn't need changing as the wear wasn't much.
Pads cost me £20 from online shop. So far minimal wear and no noise or squeak. German car parts. CO.UK I think the name of the online store. |

I recently replaced the front discs and pads on my F07GT, same part numbers as the F10 & F11
I used Brembo discs and pads, very easy job to do, also replaced the pad ware sensor as well, and then reset the I Drive, again that is easy to do using the reset button, just make sure the hand break is off when resetting. |
