The Ultimate DINAN GT - 500 HP!!

Straight up, I love my GT. Now even more than my 2008 M3 Cab which until now was the most amazing car I had. Yes they are vastly different vehicles, but I'm giddy driving my GT each day.

So how do you make it better? You install the DINAN Stage 1 performance upgrade. I now have 495 ponies at 5000 rpm and 573 lb-ft torque at 3500 rpm. The car drives as smoothly as before, and my fuel efficiency has gone from over 16L/100km to under 13L/100km which is remarkable. Mind you, that is at typical City Driving. I have yet to put it on the highway and trust the numbers will be even better. Of course I used improved fuel efficiency to sell my wife on why I needed this upgrade. LOL

As for power, smooth as butter or as neck-breaking as a launch can be - depending on how hard you punch the pedal.

Happy New Year everyone!

Looking forward to Summer and my new 21" ADV.10 rims.

Welcome to the DINAN F07 club... car_fan, myself, and you make three! We should consider ourselves trendsetters...

I currently have my snow tires mounted on the 19" wheels which came w/ the sport pkg and will be going 20" come Spring. (Chicago roads to terrible to risk 21")

As avus stated - welcome to the F07 (500) club!

All we need now is a runway Perhaps one of our counterparts in the UK will have the DINAN flash done on a GT and coordinate a run with Gustav from GTBoard. Wouldn't mind seeing a 500hp GT running against ... say a current s63 Benz on video.

Hi Car_Fan and Avus. Thanks for the posts. I had been away from the Forum over December and did not see your efforts in getting the upgrade done until I posted. I was delighted to see others who appreciate the understated power and performance in this beautiful vehicle.

Avus, funny how the US and Canadian cars come equiped differently. In Canada, you could only get the 20" wheels with the sports package. I actually drove my car with the 18" (long story behind this), and the car was far more stable and smooth. Not to say the 20" are uncomfortable. Not in the least.

I have Pirelli winters (runflat) on currently and will look to get new 21" performance tires in the Summer. Can't wait. I've attached a couple pictures of the rims that are on a gorgeous white M3. I fell in love with them the first time I saw them and think they will look great on my black GT.

I had the tune done early last week (Tuesday, Jan 4th) and have not put too many miles on the car yet. Having a wicked winter storm here this weekend. I look forward to learning more about your enjoyment and sharing.

Dinan

Hi,
I scheduled the Dinan software install tomorrow at Patrick BMW but wanted to get your opinion on it first. Does it really makes the car much faster?
Lot of people suggest to wait for the Burger or AA, etc. Eisenmann is going to release a new software also this summer. What do you think?

Depends on your comfort level with the car being out of warranty. The reason people buy Dinan is the warranty as they are very conservative and most other tuners will make more power and cost less. However if something should go wrong your pretty much on your own. With dinan you get the piece of mind that the dealer has your back should your motor go kaboom. The issue is how much power do you want? Dinan claims 495 HP and 573lbs-ft torque but as always they have no dyno to back that up and those numbers are at the crank not at the wheels the way every other tuner does it. In reality your probably getting 60hp more and probably 90lbs torque more. Not bad but definitely less than most tuners will produce. Another issue is tunability after installing other components. Say you add intake and exhaust upgrades, with dinan they will not be fully utilized but with someone like Vishnu you can tune those factors in and maximize your bolt on's.

Do you have any idea who is working on the software for this engine and if anything is coming soon? I can not wait to upgrade it. I have appointment scheduled for Dinan upgrade but if you say it is only 60hp then it doesnt sound impressive. There is huge potential in these engines. I have 335 i with Burger plugnplay 3 and never had any issues.

There are many tuners "working" on something but with no ETA's and still no word on how much power they will make. The 60 hp I quoted is just a guess but I would be surprised if it varies by more than 15% up or down. There is a member on here that was gonna do a before and after dyno comparison but I believe he has had some issue getting the dinan installed and had to push it back. Hopefully he will chime in soon with actual numbers and not my guestimates. Still 60hp more is about a 20% increase to the wheels and the torque is even bigger, that ain't terrible and the dinan will probably be safer than other tunes. I agree that $3000 is alot but right now they are offering a special and if you get all the discounts you get almost $800 off so it's more like $2200 which is alittle better. If you can't wait dinan is your only choice.

I can't speak to the dyno numbers because I don't have a before and after comparison. But there is a big difference to me. It's laughable actually at how fast this car is. Today I ditched the run flats for Nitto Invo's so now I have a bit more grip and still retain a quiet ride. My car was fast to begin with, now its something else entirely.

You can go with JB, Hamann, Vinshu, or AA (when released) etc, but Dinan has done their homework. I cant speak to the claims, but i can say my car feels significantly faster. And some folks that I have pulled on will say its significantly faster too

I should also add at this point if I want something faster, I will consider a vehicle with more sport such as a Z06, GTR, M3, M5, or 911. The GT with sport package is "Sporty" but its never going to be as sporty as the aforementioned vehicles. I love my GT for the Haulin @ss Gran Tourer it is

I have confirmed my Dinan install and dyno runs for next wk Wednesday. As others have said, with the install it becomes a formidable Qship. If you need something faster, in an almost similar pkg, trade it in for the Panamera Turbo.

$ 2200? I have quote from Patrick BMW at $ 2700 installed ( tax included ).
The discount is 20%. Are there any other offers that I am not aware of?

hmm...
its 20% of the retail price of $2999, putting it at $2399.20 after discount.
Patrick is charging you $300 in labor?! Check the Dinan website. It clearly states 0.5hrs of labor for the install.
Have them acknowledge and honor that stated labor time, or go to Laurel BMW.

Yes if your buying from a BMW dealer and are a member of the bmwcca you should get another 10% off. Atleast that is what I've seen others post. Make sure to ask because it's about $200 off extra.

And what about the tax? About 9%. It does not apply?
Where can I find out about the BMWCCA additional discount? I spoke with Patrick and they are not approving any additional discount besides 20% from Dinan.

Thanks for your help regarding the discount. I will call the dealer tomorrow again.
Any thoughts on the jcsportline.net? i like their body kit but little afraid about the quality? Any experience with the company? What do you think about their PU/carbon fiber performance kit for 550i GT?
