Hard Drive or SSD upgrade

Anyone made an attempt at cloning the OEM drive to a larger driver or an SSD for quicker start up?
I've searched and can only find it done for an X5

When I am in the car and have turned off the motor, I can hear the HDD spinning down from behind the dash, near the iDrive screen.

This link to realoem shows the HDD location, in the box which I think is directly beneath the iDrive screen:
