For those with JB4 and Aftermarket Warranties

Do you take the JB4 off before going to the dealer for something as simple as an oil change? Is there a possibility that the dealer may flag the car as having a JB4 during a regular visit so that if there's a warranty claim later down the line the aftermarket warranty company may be notified that the car previously had a JB4?

Or am I just too paranoid?

If it's easy, why not just do it to be 10000000% safe?

It's not really that easy with the JB4 beta that routes the OBD2 adapter through the firewall. It's not necessarily hard, but I'd prefer not having to do it each time.

It kind of depends on the problem. There is the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnus...s_Warranty_Act) that you might want to read up.

But that's the price/time you have to pay if you want a warranty versus modifications.

I never remove that OBD2 adapter when I go in for service. I just tuck the OBD2 plug inside the vehicle back into the lower compartment it comes out of (below the steering column) and the engine bay one I wrap up with the surrounding wires to make it look like part of the pack. They've replace engine/turbo components at the dealership when I did this and not once was it noticed.

Cool, thanks! I'm actually wondering if they would even make a note of something like a JB4 if they are doing something non-engine related. Or if they would even care since I would be going through an aftermarket warranty.

Totally understand and agree. If it was a CPO Warranty, I definitely would take it off. I was just wondering if people have had experiences with an aftermarket warranty company being notified by the dealership.

I have an aftermarket warranty but I get all my work done at the BMW dealer. They have to wait a day because the warranty place sent a rep over to look at the car and approve the work.

Care to share what warranty you have? Have they done work before and was it a hassle to get it approved? How has your N55 held up so far?

Coming up on my warranty in May and looking at Route 66, I've heard good things.

I got mine from the dealer but it's third party. MAP (motorist assistance plan). I just recently used it for an oil clean. The dealer wanted to replace oil gasket, filter and oil itself (plus labor). I took the car in Monday, rep came Tuesday and approved it, got the car Friday after the work was done. I didn't have to deal with warrenty people at all. I just came in and picked up my car (paid deductible)

As for N55, it's awesome beside this oil leak but it's solid now. At 53k miles
