Climate Control Starts when Starting Car

Do other F10 owners have an issue of the climate control, in this case, fan and A/C, automatically starting when first starting the car?
1. Yes I turned it off before I got out of the car.
2. No the green light on the auto temp controls are not engaged.

Mine (older 3-series) runs all the time. That's the way I would want it. If there's an "off" switch, I don't know where it is. Except for the A/C compressor of course.

Yes, mine always turns on when starting the car. Even if it was off when turning off the car.

Don't you find this odd? I mean it's all good when it's 80 degrees out and middle of June. But what if it's in Dec? I don't want that thing turning on.

In cold weather, the automatic climate control doesn't engage the fan until the car is sufficiently warm to provide heat. (The initial blast may be cold as the ambient air is purged from the system.)

It's been this way in all of my BMWs since 1996. And my two latest ones (the '07 335i [RIP] and and the '08 M3) heat up INCREDIBLY fast. Like, 30 to 60 seconds after being parked outdoors for almost 18 hours in temperatures as low as 4 degrees Fahrenheit.

I noticed that on the E39 I had, the heat fired up really quickly. But Since it has been 10 years, I couldn't remember how the climate control behaved. Is there any way to disable the auto fan/air manually, or through Idrive?

The climate control is designed to be always on with the A/C.
I'm sure you're aware that the heat is applied to keep the desired ambient temperature along with the A/C running.

I find that most late model cars do this fairly well... With the exception of a few people like my wife. She hates auto temp and adjust the temperature up and down to the extreme to her taste which annoys me greatly. I personally am not bothered by the high blower speed when the car is trying to adjust the interior temperature.

The only time that I turn off the climate control is when I have the windows down and sunroof open so I don't get to do this often... especially here in Santiago where the air quality is among the worst in the world.

I'm not sure if this is the same with other/older BMW's but you can turn off the climate control by turning the fan all the way down. I was dumbfounded that there was no "off" switch but I discovered this by playing with it. Is this what you did? I haven't tried to restart the car while the climate control is off so I can't confirm if this is true on my car as well. I'll try tomorrow and let you know. My car is in the basement of our apartment and is a bit of a hassle to go down 13 floors late at night.

Yeah, when I get in the car I turn the climate control off by turning fan off. As soon as I start driving if it gets hot, then I turn it on. But in the morning here in Southern California, it's very nice out about 65 degrees, so driving with the sunroof open in the morning is usually how I roll. I'm just a little annoyed that the climate control turns itself on. It's assuming I'm hot. That's like the TV in my living room turning itself on when I enter the house. Why would it assume I want to watch TV every time I enter the room?

You should keep it on to keep it in good health. If left off it will start to smell, get dusty, parts will leak or seize-up - big expenses. Leave it on. Set it to Auto and just adjust the temprature to suite you.

Personally I don't get the reason why anyone would want the Climate Control switched off completely, unless you want all sorts of temperature variations in the car. Can understand why BMW has the system running as the default.

One suggestion... if it is about airflow and the A/C function. Set the system out of the auto mode. Set as you would like it, in manual mode, something like... Switch off the A/C button (if part of the issue) and/or put the fan speed(s) to minimum, but not off. That will log in the memory and start up will always be at that setting. Minimum fan speeds will be maintained and the system will just modify the heat to the preset temperatures, but very gently.
