so pretty much it cost twice as much to own a M5 in Malaysia then in the United States? That's crazy. The import laws should be different.

The cost of an M5 in Indonesia (where I come from) is about $250,000 before tax and etc.

This is why you can always tell a real M5 by its wing mirrors (and previously interior - oval vs. rectangular).

Doesn't surprise me it's China. A lot of fake stuff happens there.

Bro, if u r aware u know whats goin on on our Malaysian's political situation right? Opposition goina take over. N they might reduce the excise duty. Which is good for the lower income earner. For us, mayb i might upgrade to M5? Or perhaps new M4? Lol...

+1. Nothing is wrong with converting the body kit and exhaust to an M5 look. I think it looks great. However, slapping an M5 badge on a non-M5 is just not right.

For those who don't understand why having the M5 logo is wrong, a real BMW person can distinguish that you drive a "fake" M5 vs you drive a BMW (the sound, interior, intercoolers placement, etc.). To me, installing the M5 logo on a non-M5 is equivalent of wearing a fake Rolex. Sure you can fool most people, but deep down inside, you're a phony.

As for cost, it's relative. If a 520i costs $100k USD in China, then leave the 520i badge on there. People will know that you're able to afford a $100k USD car, which is still impressive (especially China's average income per capita is $5k/year vs $45k/year in the U.S). An M5 costs $180k USD in China, so those who can afford that is good for them.

I can't afford a $150k USD Alpina B7 in the U.S, that doesn't give me the right to put a B7 badge on my 750. I could never live with myself being a phony.

I agree with this. But as far as the cost thing goes... If you have a badge to show off how much money you are capable of dropping on a car, then you have serious issues IMHO.

That's a very good point. Seems its all about status.

My 520D Touring was +130 000 USD in Norway. That is with a lot of options and winter tires, but still.

But again, if you have badge on to tell the world how much you can spend on a car, you are a duce.
