6WA Kombi Instrument Cluster non-HUD
This 6WA Extended-Content cluster is in perfect working order and I will pack and ship it carefully so that it gets to you ready for EEPROM work and installation. I do not do EEPROM work so buyer must arrange this or do this for themselves. As with all of these clusters, they will absolutely NOT work in your car until the EEPROM has been updated to hold your car's VIN. It takes two minutes to swap clusters. Any buyer should be able to do this for themselves. This cluster has two EEPROM locations. One in the back of the unit, which is standard, and the other which is behind the cluster's face. The buyer must understand that to access this second EEPROM, the cluster's needles will have to be removed in order to access this second EEPROM. I have priced this item appropriately to this increased effort required to prepare it for use in your car. BMW Part Number: 62109232945

I might be interested but I don't understand all the programming that needs to be done to get this to work (I will research though). I thought I remembered reading that the mileage on a cluster had to be less than your current mileage to get this to work?! Or perhaps you get the temper dot? Is any of that true?

you need to fully disassemble the cluster, desolder a chip, read the content and modify it to have your vin of a blank vin, and 0 miles. Then you program it and it will read miles from the other modules in the car. To erase the chip you need a special programmer or sometimes a replacement chip

Thanks for the inputs. Your comments reminded me to add that this cluster's "donor" car (mine) had 73,357 miles when I removed the cluster last week so YOUR car MUST HAVE more than that when you put this cluster into your car, or the cluster has to have been set to less than your car's mileage per Secret Asian's post.
For Secret Asian's post, total disassembly involves a few screws, so it's not as horrible as it sounds. Also, the guy who set this cluster up for me did not have to remove the EEPROM chips from the cluster. All work was done in-place. He put my car's short VIN into the two EEPROM chips which store the VIN, we put the cluster in the car, we put "6WA" into the VO, applied the new VO metadata to car, then we coded the HU-CIC and KOMBI ECUs and it worked perfectly. There are instructions on how to set the EEPORM to all "0"s and then having to flash the KOMBI, and I crashed and burned (failed) when I tried that way.

Its doable, changing vin is easier, setting miles to 0 is not since that section is write protected. So if your car has less than stated mileage its a bit easier to do. I have 6wa and drive my friends car without it and 6wa is much nicer to me. If I didnt have it i'd buy this

Bake it can work for you just need to make sure the person who does this for you can properly set miles to 0. The chip generally only allows increasing not decreasing but there is a special tool that can erase it and then you acn program in 0. Also as a worst case scenario it is possible to buy a blank chip and program everything else except mileage and then you can install it.
Its just a bit of extra work |
