What does "Comfort Access" mean on a F10 528i (USA)?

I've been to two different dealers and they both tell me different things. Confused!

If you do not pay the $1k for the "Comfort Access" option on the 528i model (not the 535,550), do you have to insert the remote fob into a slot on the dash in order to start the car?

One dealer said yes; the other said no - but neither of them have yet seen a 2011 528i - only the high models.

Anyone been in a (US) 528i that didnt' have the Comfort Access option??

i understand that with respect to startup of the car, all F10s have comfort access.

In NA, the add-on option adds:
comfort entry
chrome strips on door handles
ambient light on door handles (very cool)

in other regions like asia, the chrome strips and lights are also standard on all F10s. instead we get to pay 2k USD for just the comfort entry part lol...

I think even without comfort access you can start the key with the key in your pocket?

I believe all models don't have a key slot and comfort access just lets you open/lock the doors with the key in your pocket. I think you can also roll down/close the windows too without using the key.

Does anyone know if you can start the car with the F10 remote fob (as you're walking toward the vehicle on a sweltering day)?

No, you must have your foot on the brake (AT) or clutch (MT) to start the vehicle. There is a switch on them that checks that.

Without mods anyway. I think there are vendors that can give you remote start capability.

Are you sure the little led lights on the door handle are added by comfort access? I ask because the 3 we have in the family does not have comfort access and has those little handle LEDs that light up when the car is unlocked with the fob.

Comfort Access

Comfort Access in the US is part of the ZCV Convenience Package. It allows you to enter the car by touching the door handle, instead of using the remote. The convenience package adds a power tailgate and the motorized doors. (They close for you when you shut them.)

As far as I know, all US cars with ZPP (Premium package 1) have the door handle lights. F10's do not have remote start, although you can lower your windows and open the sunroof via the remote. (A feature found on many BMW's for the past few years.) Also, there is no longer a slot for a key no matter if you get the Comfort Access or no. As noted on a prior post, you just have to use the remote to enter the car.
