Center Console Switch Question

So I have a 2011 550xi and it currently has the wood trim that I want to switch to the aluminum trim that I bought (I believe it came from a newer model). As I was switching the center console area, I noticed that the switches (the grey piece that has the traction control button and PDC button [pic below]) doesn't fit right. What should I do to make it work? Do I need to buy a new switch? I thought all these switches were the same size and shape.

I have this right now:

I would have to say that you bought the wrong trim piece.

Did they change the trim piece for the newer models?

It did in 2014, called LCI ( life cycle impulse).
The IDrive knob and a list of other things changed.
I'm sure this change affected the surrounding trim and switches.
You would need to stick with "pre LCI" years.

I'm guessing I can't just buy a new shifter and plug that in with the new switch panel (the grey panel with TC, PDC buttons)?
