Hole (sound baffle?) in lower airbox

Just installed a BMS intake on my 535i. What is this hole (that doesn't go anywhere) for? Is it a sound baffle? I also noticed the BMW air filter had some additional filtration material over that area.

I honestly can't say That I know I can speculate might have something to do with vacuum

I wonder if you get more cool turbo sounds by taking that out? Remove it and report back.
