About to order a new 535xi
Hi everyone,
I'm about to order a 2011 535xi (U.S.) and this will be my first BMW. I was looking for some feedback, changes, additions or criticism of what I was planning to order: 2011 535xi Alpine White Black Dakota leather interior Antracite trim Sport Package Premium Packages 1 and 2 Split fold down and ski bag I wasn't sure about: Sport Auto Transmission I was planning to pass on: Dynamic Handling package Convenience package Driver Assistance package Cold weather package (except heated front seats). Thanks in advance for any of your thoughts or comments. Doug |

The Heated steering wheel in the cold weather package is just wonderful in cold weather. |

Nappa is nice, but I didn't get it. Generally there's cotton (clothes) between me and my leather seats. Unless you drive your car nekkid.

I have the exact same car in packages but mine is Mojave metallic and cinnamon interior. I highly recommend having anthracite headliner. With a black interior, a grey headliner just makes it look cheap. Black headliner really makes it look like a million bucks. JMO

Why get the "ix" for San Francisco? Surely it doesn't snow there very often?
I'm finding the doors and trunk very difficult to close and am regretting not getting the convenience package. Save your money on the premium #2 and buy a Garmin instead of a $2000 nav system.

I would get the 8 speed Auto transmission. With paddles ($500) only if usage entails coming down steep hills and you want to downshift without reaching over to the shifter.
You might consider the dynamic handling package - I think it will "hold onto the road" better. Form other comments: As far as leather, Nappa is softer and smoother (slick), but Dakota holds you in your seat firmly and I believe will last longer. Good choice. San Francisco doesn't have snow, but we drive to the Sierra. Great car to cruise up there on long weekends and go skiing.

Thanks all for your input.
Yes, I have a cabin near Tahoe. I'll go back to the dealer and check out the convenience package. Still not sure about the Auto Transmission--but "only" $500. Thanks again. |
