tyre contingency plans
Hi All,
Finally got my 520d auto on Friday after ordering August 1st. Very happy, fantastic car. It's quicker than I remember from my test drive (which at the time of ordering caused me the same 520d vs. 525d anguish other people have had) and it seems to be averaging 45ish (without overly sensible driving) so I reckon I can stretch to very late 40s when I try. My main concern is what do I do if I'm on a long Sunday drive (i.e. over 50 miles) with the family and I get a puncture. BMW garages will be shut etc....it seems unlikely I'll be able to source a tyre at the roadside so what are the options, call BMW Services and get them to carry me back home on the back of a trailer? I'm interested to hear what contingency plans people have for this scenario. Cheers Jonny |

2. if you have a prob with runflats, you are only deferring your problem by a few hundred miles.

Don't you get free BMW Mobile Service over there on dee island? ;-) They do tire repair/replacement on the spot if possible (tire costs are not covered themselves) You get replacement car, hotel accommodation etc if they can't fix the problem on the spot? I've never tried them, but I have a friend who was stuck at 2 am somewhere in Greece I believe and was really happy with the assistance provided.

Thanks for replying...
I do have run flats, but I've heard mixed reports about the range of them i.e. 50miles or 200 miles, before you can go no further. Additionally travelling 200-300 miles at 50 mph isn't an appealing prospect. I'm interested to understand the reaction of BMW mobile services, if they are receptive to these problems and sort them out on the spot (of course for the cost of the tyre). Jon |
