F10 Interior Rear Dome Light Upgrade
There are two types of rear interior dome light assemblies.
The one that came in my LCI, was the 10-pin, 3 bulb version, where the two map light orientations are fixed. The another version is the 8-pin, 2 bulb version, that has two orientation adjustable map lights. I swapped out the light assembly to the 8-pin, 2 bulb version so that the rear seat passengers can adjust the orientation of the map lights to their liking. You lose the ability to change out the color of the ambient lighting color, but I prefer the BMW orange, so this isn't a loss for me....all other functions are maintained. The dome light assembly was about $20 off of eBay, and I already had the 8-position connector for the wiring harness side...I'm sure you can order the mating connector.... Upgrade took about 10 minutes. 3-bulb non-adjustable p/n: 63319240763 2-bulb adjustable p/n: 63319321574 (shown below) Last edited by M_Bimmer; 09-21-2020 at 09:23 PM.. |

If you are going from a 10-pin to 8-pin rear interior dome assembly, it's a one-for-one pin transfer for pins 1 - 8
Pin 9 & 10 are not used in the "swivel" 8-pin assembly, since it only supports 1 color for ambient lighting (orange), where the 10-pin supports mutli-colored ambient light color. Pin to wire color assignment: Pin 1 = Green Pin 2 = Yellow Pin 3 = Blue Pin 4 = Brown/White Pin 5 = Brown/Yellow Pin 6 = Blue/Violet Pin 7 = Gray/Red Pin 8 = Gray/Brown Pin 9 = Purple/Red (Not used in 8-pin rear light dome version) Pin 10 = Purple/Black (Not used in 8-pin rear light dome version) Hope this helps. |
