Looks like there is some special lighting in the front bumper, LED perhaps like you said. As part of the BMW's EfficientDynamics design philosophy, the funky wheel design has a purpose -- to cut down drag and increase overall efficiency (see wheels on Vision EfficientDynamics Concept car)

Please tell me those are not LED foglights.
BMWBlog reported a while back that the car will be powered by a inline six with 218hp and 40hp coming from the electric motor. If that ends up being the case, wouldn't it be going against BMW's other AHs that have more power than the regular car, with slightly better efficiency? |

BMW is really whoring out this Active Hybrid stuff. Is there any model that does not have it? Maybe the Z4?

There must be some guy working at BMW that designs the ugliest rims known to man kind - then every time they are unveiling a hybrid they go to him and ask for a new design.
"Hey ugly rim guy, we have a new hybrid coming out, we need your expertise"...

Haha they do look very ugly, but they are done to improve aerodynamics I'm guessing they may offer standard wheels as a no cost option of that wheel actually makes it into the production model.

See a positive thing in this: NA I6 Petrol + Electric. This could be the sollution for BMW Supercar. Imagine a High-Reving NA 3.0l I6 with 350 hp + a 100 hp elctric engine = 450 hp in a 1300 kg sportcar an good mpg.

How exactly are they going to reliably get 350 horsepower out of a naturally aspirated 3.0L I6? I know the E46 M3 got 330hp, but that was a 3.2L, and it was built by ///M.

IMHO
Color: interesting
Wheels: design looks too angular and contrasts too much with the sleekness of the car's overall form. Graphics: s u u u u c k Front wind-split & LED foglight combo: nice form, but man do I hate the dot-dot-dot look of LEDs. The headlight rings and taillight bars are lit by LEDs and don't have a dot-dot-dot appearance. Why won't the lighting engineers devise some clear prisms or lenses that can aim the light without the dot look? Overall concept: too complicated for my taste. I'll take a 530d with a manual transmission without the variable-ratio electric steering. I'll have more control, more fun, feel more connected to the road, feel more connected to the machine, probably get better mileage, worry less about electronic nannies and probably have a better long-term ownership experience. Oh, yeah...right. BMW won't let us in the USA *HAVE* 530d models. They think we want THIS electric crap. FRIGGIN' IDIOTS!!!! |
