535i jb1 vs jb4

Hi guys,

New around here! Recently trade in my f30 328i for 535i M-sport and I love it so far. I had jb1 which I currently use on 535i as well and i can feel the difference and love the fact how easy I can unplug since the car is CPO. However most of people here drive here drive with Jb4 on map 2 and they say it's amazing so just wander is it word it the upgrade and complicate my life from plug - unplug perspective with dealership visits?

I'm not planning major upgrades besides quad-exhaust with M5 mufflers and diffuser. This means map2 on 93 octane all the time...

Jb is a stage 1 tune, it does a great job off adding power for cheap

Jb4 is a complete tune, it controls a lot more than boost + more features and safety.

1- i dont recommend running map 2 with stock downpipes unless you datalog and make sure car how the car is handling the extra power

Just because other people are doing it does not mean it is the right thing to do

You sound like someone that wants to get max power from the car, thats why i recommend the JB4 over the stage 1

so stock motor on with JB4 is no good? i didn't want to run a DP? the only exhaust mod i would have is the Meisterschaft and stock intake

Jb4 will work just as well with a stock car

You dont have to add mods

ok in that case what about jb4 map 1 vs jb - does it ad any benefit over like power delivery or safety?

JB4 has more safety features but on a stock car running map 1 you wont need the extra features.

Power delivery is a bit smoother with the JB4 versus the Jb stage 1

ok if I go for jb4 and install it and skip OBD installation part it will be in map 1 by default correct.? this way I will get the better power delivery of jb4?

If you do not have the OBD installed, it is basically identical to stage 1 Jb

Everything is the same if you dont plug in the OBD

I dont understand why you would get the JB4 and just decide not to plug in the OBD

OBD takes at the most 5 - 10 minutes
How often do you have CPO visits?

basically from what you're saying there isn't too much of a point to change it jb with jb4 especially where i'm now. I thought that map 2 is the best you can get on stock car without any heavy mods but you're saying that it's not safe....
Also at the moment with the jb i got jb4 on map 1 or I'm missing something?

Here is the JB4 map guide, maybe it will make things clearer
Notice BMS suggest 93 and bolt on modifications for map 2. Some people run it without these mods, but they need often datalog and check everything is running fine

Map 0: JB4 disabled
Map 1: Additive target, around 4psi over stock.
Map 2: Additive target, around 6psi over stock. Suggested for those with 93 octane and bolt on modifications. Also good for small E85 mixtures.
Map 3: Progressive methanol mapping, absolute target of 11-20psi based on meth flow, meth additive setting, and average ignition values.
Map 4: Stock performance with JB4 active for logging only.
Map 5: Autotuning map, absolute target of 11-17psi based on octane and conditions.
Map 6: User definable absolute target map. Suggested for troubleshooting by professionals only.
Map 7: Race gas map. Absolute target of 18.5psi. Requires straight unleaded race gas.

Is that map 2 bolt on recommendation just for the n55? I just installed my jb4 beta and have been running map 2 on the n63 without any bolt ons. Should I be worried?

Im on jb4 stage 2 always on map 2 with er racewerks downpipe and chargepipe and bms intake

Biggest difference difference i feel is the lost of the sluggish takeoff kinda of like car struggling with weight and 2-3 gear shift is much smoother and linear not as WOW'D as i thought id be from reading online

BUT i think my downfall is my brother has an f30 335 with same mods as me and hes on ecu tune his before and after is SHOCKING almost feels like a rwd car as far as the power pushing the car so i guess i expected that kind of difference. From logging with the app im peaking 10lbs on map 2 which also i thought was more like 12/14 depending on conditions

Im in the stage right of considering pureturbo stage 2 along with a ecu tune or just jumping into a later model 550 as i hear the n63tu resolved many of the issues the original n63 had plus its much closer to power of m5 so that on stage2 has to be AMAZING

Its mostly DP but it would be a good idea to also to CP (reliability) and intercooler (consistency)
