Which is faster Dinan tune or JB Tune?

I realize the warranty advantage that you get by going with the Dinan tune but how do they perform when lined up next to each other. Let's say F10 550i with similar tunes "Stage 1" or "Stage 2" for example. Who wins?

Although not a direct comparison to the 550i N63 engine, check this link for tune comparison details on the N54 engine. As a general statement, Dinan tunes are less aggressive than others (JB4, Procede, etc.), mainly due to the more modest increase in boost levels. I had the Dinan Stage 2 on my 335i, and was pleased with the performance. If your primary concern is maximum gains in hp/torque, Dinan will likely rank lower on your list.

Good luck.

As someone with DINAN Stage 3, go with JB4. Adjustable, more reliable, cheaper, and probably faster.

DINAN is a total overrated waste. I paid $4k for a tune that didn't even work, I was getting stock times at the 1/4 mile.

Rough re: Dinan. They're great for suspension and other hardware - just overpriced as hell.

My Dinan Stage 2 is fast and furious. How much is the JB4 by the way?

Yea, well you were probably lucky and actually had the tune properly installed. DINAN is no slouch (according to others, my DINAN tune wasn't even working ), but JB4 gives it a run for its money. JB4 is apx. $400, which is 1/10 of DINAN Stage 3, and it still is faster.

you can unplug it before going to dealer. I went to dealer without engine cover along with JB1, no questions asked.

Can you provide proof of that? That would help a lot of people concerned with Dinan's integrity. From recent memory, a lot of Dinan owners develop a "perceived" gain in performance when the actual boosts are pretty much intermittent.

As to the OP, I've seen nothing but JB dominating Dinan and sadly watching those owners feel like, "why the hell does my car feel slower today?" in realization of the loss and placebo effect wearing off. Happens all the time.

It is quite obvious when the Dinan tune is not there. I've had the dealer do a software upgrade which wiped it out. It feels like you lost 2 cylinders. With the tune, the tires light up with little effort.

I agree with DINAN_GT. I have researched all options on tune for the N63 and nothing provides better value than the BMS Stage 1. The diligence that BMS has demonstrated with the N54/55 tunes can leave one to believe that further stages can only provide more value. With the potential of the N63 engine, BMS is the best ally for value and power.
