Does anyone else have this kind of baseline?

I have modded every single car I have ever owned, and my F10 is my 40th car. Now, I have generally held to a rule of thumb:
Anything over $50 per hp is stupid and overpriced. - Again, general rule, there are variances, such as ECU tunes and Intercoolers that may or may not provide other benefits than just HP.
For example: I am contemplating going with JB4 stage 2, FMIC, DP, Chargepipe, completing my exhaust to be 3" all the way, and finally Pure Stage 2 turbos. These, theoretically, should have me around 500 whp. That is a gain of about 200 over stock, for a total price of about $6k (pending installing all myself). That translates to an avg of about $30/hp - which is more than reasonable according to my little "golden rule"
Thoughts?

I'm planning on a similar route. Whether I'm gonna actually do it I'm not sure when? Pure2 upgrade, Mission Performance flash, CP,.DP. probably contact Pure and see if the intercooler is recommended. I'm still doing a bit more research as far as internals are concerned. And I'm talking long term. Rods, crankshaft, pistons and the block itself. And I want solid proof or research on how much the stock block can handle before it blows. For the fuel system how much is the factory fuel pump able to handle the extra fuel? Are the injectors big enough to support the added hp? Will the head need to be worked on...maybe some port and Polish? Coming from the import world I translate what I learned from Turbo charging than to what the 5er should handle so I'll see down the road.

Gotta give my brother Bmwdoubles props as he's been really giving us 535 guys encouragement as far as finding more power for us

Oh I agree completely, I am still doing research as well. However, I am very encouraged seeing N55 335's already cracking 600 whp (we have the same internals, obviously). The one case I heard of damaged internals, so far, was an F10 guy who was running really lean for 8 months - he bent a rod. I don't plan on going full tilt, and seeking 600+ whp, and everything I have read/seen so far says we should be good with internals and fuel system to 500 whp. I still want to keep my car a daily driver that can be a wolf in sheep's clothing when the need arises.

things I DO suspect need upgrading will be trans and oil coolers (which they make), and the addition of an oil catch can. possibly adding a pusher fan to the front of the radiator to help heat dissipation. As we know, turbo cars generate a TON of heat.

I spoke to local shop here in ny same route i already have my dp cp and jb4 stage 2, for fbo fmic isnt recommended and even on pureturbo stGe2 he told me unless i was going to run e85 consistenly even then i wouldn't need the fmic tranny is the weak part of the equation so def cooling is something to look into

PJinCA that combo will yield great results just keep in mind were all breaking new ground here with pure turbo / tunes on the F10 535 DME. So far discoveries on the ecu has been torque management is different then the F30 ecu hence the reason they make more power on the same engine. I just got my stage 2 with torque management flash so we'll see how the dyno numbers look on OEM turbo soon. The results of that should be promising for the next upgrade which will be Pure Turbo or Steam. Haven't decided yet, most likely Pure.

As soon as we have a dyno date locked down I'll hit you up and come hang with us.

Thanks bro, I appreciate that. I am still doing as much research as I can. I realize the trans can, and probably will be the weak link, but there are many F110 550 trans out there if needed.

PJinCA congrats and good luck
You have a great help with Bmw doubles MissionPerformance and ocN55 over there.

Now get more folks in your team and continue the great work on the N55 soon to merge into other engines.

Thanks, yes, I am fortunate to live here in Socal where so many of the modders and tuners are, it's a great help. Back when I built my old Accord for racing it took a long time because I was getting a lot of advice from JDM tuners in Japan, and it was long before the internet is what it is today. I spent months going back and forth with JUN Engineering.

I hear ya! The JDM days! Same here, back and forth with Japan as they sent me a full front end clip DC2 TYPE R, Type R doors, Type R rear bumper and Type R spoiler!

Wow, that is one very nice Type R
Funny thing was I kept my Accord pretty much stock outside. The only things that tipped off any performance mods were the bigger wheels and brakes, the small wing on the trunk, and - if you happen to look closely, the intercooler behind the lower grille. Other than that it didn't look like anything special. The interior was a dead giveaway though, full roll cage, one racing Recaro, fire suppression system, nothing on the floor other than the shifter sticking up, flat aluminum dash with the barest of gauges.

Same with my interior...can you say "Got Gauges?" Roll cage, Cobra Monaco racing seats, it's how we did things back than lol! Kinda miss those days

Back to HP I would definitely start looking into PureTurbo as I think that will be the best way to go.

I've got BMS JB4, VRSF Downpipe, FTP Charge Pipe, BMS Intake, and working on custom 550 exhaust. I'm thinking of finishing it off with a Stage 1 Pure Turbo. I could always upgrade to Stage 2 later on. What are the best back-end flashes available for F10 N55?

What is a back end flash? Never heard of that term before?

After some further research it appears they haven't been able to make it work on the F chassis.

Furthest they got was here: http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22563

A backend flash is a flash tune. The term backend flash is where you use a piggyback in conjunction with a flash tune. Also referred to as stacked. I ran aJB4 with Terry's backend pump flash for 91oct that made well over 350whp.

http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21382

The reason why n54 boards don't reveal a way to add backend flashes is because they can't flash through OBD directly on newer motors. You have to bench flash which means removing the ecu. This is the debate when choosing a tune.

The n54 is a magnificent platform and is really the best project car for their inline6.

Yeah, I would have to talk to Mission Performance and see if their backend flash would give me any benefit if I go with the mod combo I outlined here.

Do you have all the upgrades you mentioned in the thread?

"From most important to least in my opinion:

Downpipe, Intake, Chargepipe, Intercooler + the tune will make you an FBO car."

Because that is pretty much my shopping list, plus Pure Stage 2. And then I would love to know if Mission's tune would give me a benefit on top of these.
