Wipers
Uh, how do I pull up the wipers in order to clean the windshield at the gas station? Tried it the other day and felt like a fool

By exerting a force opposite and greater than the resistive force on the wiper.

Seriously, I just gave it a pull in the middle of the wiper (not over the hinge or close to the hinge) and up it comes (that is not what she said).

Maybe this from page 64 in the manual ?!
Fold-out position of the wipers Required when changing the wiper blades or under frosty conditions, for example. 1. Switch off the ignition. 2. Under frosty conditions, ensure that the wiper blades are not frozen onto the windshield. 3. Press the wiper lever up beyond the point of resistance and hold it for approx. 3 seconds, until the wiper remains in a nearly vertical position. After the wipers are folded back down, the wiper system must be reactivated. Fold the wipers back down Before switching the ignition on, fold the wipers back down to the windshield; otherwise, the wipers may become damaged when they are switched on. 1. Switch on the ignition. 2. Press the wiper levers down. The wipers move to their resting position and are ready for operation.

That didn't work. Now what? Can someone try this and see if it works for them
but I did look like a fool at the gas station with my wipers running, while I tried to hold it repeatedly for "3 seconds" |

From what I understand, you want to lift the windscreen wipers up, so you can clean the section of the window underneath them, yes?

If you say the wipers were running when you pressed the lever beyond the point of resistance and hold it for approx. 3 seconds, it means the ignition was ON.

I followed the manual that says "3. Press the wiper lever up beyond the point of resistance and hold it for approx. 3 seconds, until the wiper remains in a nearly vertical position." The above implies that the wipers will move until they come to a stop in a vertical position. Anyone try the way the manual is suggesting?? |

I'm so confused, this is absolutely stupid. BMW have complex, complicated designs but I'm sure they're not so stupid that you can't lift the windscreen wiper up to clean the freaking window!! I'm sorry but, "how hard can it be?!"
Lift, wipe windscreen clean, put down (if they haven't already jumped back down on the windscreen due to their weight to gravity and potential energy stored in the spring acting as resistance). I do apologise, but FFS, it can't be this hard, surely?! This is hilariously silly!

Another way to do it is with the ignition completely off (1st press to switch off engine, 2nd press to switch off ignition) the wiper arms can be manually moved to any position you want - just lift the blades slightly clear of the screen and apply gentle pressure to move the arms. It's even easier with a wet screen as you don't even have to lift the blades. |

On the F10 the rear edge of the bonnet precludes this action; the arms have first to be moved approximately 30⁰ from the horizontal, thereby allowing the arm hinge to be folded forwards. |

Well, I'm staggered, absolutely staggered.
Good luck with your wipers, OP, you'll need it! Brain surgery seems a simple task in comparison!!
