Hey guys,I live in Socal and I brought a used 550i 6 month ago from a local non-bmw dealer. Today, I decided to put a new set of catback exhaust in my car. However, I found the car's secondary cat(under driver's seat) is missing and the muffler shop owner tell me that I cannot pass the smog test If I don't have them. I am wondering if someone have the secondary cat could sell them to me and I will be much appreciated. Thank you!

thats not a cat. thats only a resonator. look it up on the bmw parts section. we only have 1 pair of cats which is right behind the engine.

oh,ok then I think I would be fine with the smog test right? IF they ask about it just tell him that is used to be two resonators right? This is my first car, and I never done the smog test before in California...

show that to the smog guy. or who ever saying u are missing cats. in cali they stop doing the tail pipe smog. its all odb2 now.

Yes, I have been working with Jason at getbmwparts for about 10 years now on my 328 and my 550. If you need parts at the best or close to best price, THEY are the way to go.

SPeaking of Cats, I am curious to know just how much more flow a set of M5 Downpipes allow over a stock set of 550 downpipes. The Cat is like double the size from what I see on them.

On my last smog check last December the guy just plugged his machine into the OBD port. Didn't even pop the hood after I went to all the trouble of getting the CARB "plaque" from K&N for the intake. This was on a MY206 car...
