Speed limit display
The Speed Limit display function on my car shows plenty of inaccurate readings. It has been back to the dealer but still no improvement. I am based in the UK does anybody else have problems?

Works like a charm 99% of the time. Some flaws when reading temporary roadsigns (like when passing roadworks, in which case you need to slow down anyway).
- tried it in NL, DE, B and F.

Was one of the concerns I had was how reliable it is and the answer I received from the dealer was almost verbatim what Edwin said, a charm across Europe except on those temporary roadsigns. Until it was explained I thought the speed recognition was some sort of signal reception not camera reading, not much of a techie but I was surprised.

Maybe BMW forgot to adjust and test the system for driving on the left?

Combination of vast amounts of data from the satnav maps, enriched with real life data from a camera plus recognition software. The camera is mounted in the rear view mirror.

I'm in the UK and it works fine for me, even spots the small repeaters signs when you leave a temp speed site and they haven't put a big sign. However it got caught out the other day when passing a junction and the 30 sign of the side road was twisted and it spotted it, but generally very happy with it as a guide

I am due to pick up my new 535i Tuesday next week. I arrived home to find an email from BMW Australia that states "the Speed Limit info display has been removed from all vehichles, due to incorrect speed readings on Australian roads and poor functionality. Whilst this option was installed on your car, BMW will not activate the system. The cost of the option will be reinbursed to you." I wonder if this is just an an Australian issue or BMW are having problems with the system?.

I pick up my car in less then 2 weeks, this is an option I got to help keep track of unrestricted and restricted areas in Germany, I really hope it isn't the case. I have not heard any negative feedback locally from owners or my dealer.

Yes it is retrofittable.
My friend had it done here in DK. Later when i receive my f11 i will have it done to. Thats the cheapest way to do it here in Denmark due to the taxes. |
