The A6 is a really nice looking car. My only reservation is the "Russian doll" design philosophy of Audi at the moment. From 50 yards ... A4? A6? A8?

Try telling the difference between an F10 and an F01 from 50 yards away...

And keep in mind AMS and VAG, it sometimes looks like a mariage....
I just bought the latest issue and i saw that audi won the comparison test!! In fact bmw was the last!! Maybe they are wrong or maybe bmw lost it's way somehow!!
In the past , when a new 5 series was on the market ,it quickly established its self as the benchmark beeing way ahead of its competition!!
Nowadays it seems that it doesn't matter if you buy e class, a6 or 5 series because thei are almost the same!!
i want to feel special because i owen a bmw like i used to!!

You see the problem is that BMW went after the mainstream of people who wants a smooth, quite ride with almost full isolation from the road. Well BMW delivered, but in doing so they have lost the sharpness that was known about the BMW.
Enthusiast like us and magazine writers were in love with the BMW because of the communicative steering, suspension and behavior of the car. Now we will have to look somewhere else for those traits, a CTS-V is looking like a great option now if you are looking for the E60 driving dynamics.

I think you hit the nail on the head there: I just bought the Auto Zeitung (another German mag) from 30/03 where they do a comparison between A6 3.0TDI S-line and BMW 530D M-sports package and again the Audi comes out best and again the Audi beats the BMW in handling which I still find astonishing. The BMW did score better in the ride comfort department, so that links in perfectly with what LSs1Power just posted.

IMO it's easy to differentiate the current 3 / 5 / 7 series. With BMW, it seems there is an external design philosophy of similarities between the models (the 5 GT being the notable exception), but to my eyes, they are quite clearly distinct. I can see an F10 vs F01 from 150 yards in my rear view mirror.

With Audi, there is a jelly mould / russian doll design philosophy in their current design model, for the A4 / A6 / A8, with regards to the overall body shape and lines on the cars. The design, to my eyes anyway, seems to carry through all of these models, in a more linear "bigger size" way. The main differentiator being the shape of the lights / LED pattern. If it works for them, than there is nothing wrong with that philosophy. For me, I want the model range to share the stable of design, but be individual in it's own right.

All said IMO.

Don't like the NAV at all. How does it pop up anyway. Looks like the air vents would obstruct it.

Audi wins the rear view.
BMW wins all other exterior and interior views.

I've read 5 direct comparisons of the audi A6 and the BMW 5 now and all of them favour the Audi, even if it's just for handling capability. Everybody has their own personal tastes when it comes down to the look of the car, but you certainly have to agree that Audi has done a great job with the A6 to best the 5-series in ride quality.

I'm still gonna test them both of course, see if the reviews make sense.

Nice comparison. I personally think the Audi has a far more modern front (BMW is pretty traditional though I like it). From the rear I prefer the BMW. In terms of interior whoever said Audi has better interiors? I'd take the BMW any day.

Audi only looks good with the s line package whereas the f10 is sexy with or without the m sport. Also can't stand the a6 rear end.. Looks like a Hyundai all the way haha s line front is a beast tho!!!

Only think I'm not a fan of the f10 is that the side view makes it look too long in the front..

Love the f10 interior and just find the a6 to be pretty cheap... Seats are better than previous audis but didn't feel as luxurious as the f10.. Also felt that there was too much space from the driver and the door panel... I like being snug in the cabin when I drive haha
