About to do my calipers this weekend and am planning on getting a floor jack also. Did you just use a floor jack and painted one caliper at a time or did you put the car up on jack stands and do fronts first, then rears. Thx.

I did one at a time, but it would be better to get axle stands and do both at the same time. When I do the rears, I'll get axle stands.

But that was using brush and paint, if using spray paint just do one at a time. The hint with the brush and paint is that it hardens, so am limited on time to apply.

So just thought about this where are you guys putting the Jack stands if you're using the Jack points with adaptor when using the Jack to lift the car? When I put my wheels on I just did one wheel at a time. If and when I paint my calipers I plan on putting the front on Jack stands do the front first. Lower, than do the rears. Anyone have pictures where to put the stands? Hate to put it on a component that's not safe or damage it by accident.

I've searched far and wide for this. I've found a general BMW diagram stating there's a jack point in the center front and center rear of the car. Not sure if this applies to all F10 or 5 series. There's this:

If not then I'll have to do it one at a time. I'm going to take a stab at the calipers this weekend if I can find myself a jack+stands.

Finally did the calipers this past weekend. Big mistake going with the brush-on paint. Maybe it was the Dupli-color brand or the yellow color or just my bad paint job but even after 5 coats, there were tons of brush lines and it just looked like a 5 yr old painted it. Luckily, I had a can of high temp engine paint in the same color so I ended up using that and it came out nice. Spraying will save you a lot of time but expect this to be an all day project.....lots of waiting around.

i had a lot of recommendations to go with the brush. i too was worried about visible brush strokes! yours came out good tho! any full side shots of the car now? i plan on going matte black and also painting the hub and the back splash to the rotor as well.

If you go to Home Depot and get the 1" foam brush you will have much better results with much fewer brush strokes. That's what I do. The foam brush is like $0.67

I finally did my calipers and this post was very helpful along with a few others. Stretching the plastic bag over the rotors saved some time as the prep and taping was pain staking. Here is my finished DIY painted break calipers on youtube.

What did you use for the text and where did you get it? I have an Imperial Blue Metallic non-M 550i so I was thinking of doing bronze calipers with dark gray BMW text since I don't want to put an ///M badge.

as long as you can afford the downtime and you have an extra car...why not!
