I totally agree with you here - it feels very very similar to torque vectoring. I drove an Acura with SH-AWD for over 5 years and my current car has IAS.

Here's the different torque vectoring methods currently available:

The only BMW models which currently have "Lateral torque vectoring control" are X6, X5M and X6M. New 5-series with xDrive, new 7-series with xDrive and new X3 all fall under "lateral brake control" section.
