40€ to detail after ED dropoff?
I keep forgetting to ask about this...
When I dropped my car off, the guy at Loginout asked if I wanted to hve the car detailed before shipping. I initially declined, but he pointed out that the car was covered with bug guts, and I didn't really want to have that sitting on the car while it's in transit (which is now 30 days and counting). So I paid it. Did I get taken? Have others done this? Is it standard??

I just read that US customs requires the car to be clean and BMW recommends having it washed before dropping it off. Its nice they offered that service right there. Around LA a detail will cost will easily cost $80 - $90 so 40€ doesn't sound bad on the face of it. Your local dealer will probably wash the exterior when it arrives but I'd imagine but you should be able to tell by the interior if it was actually detailed.
What drop off point was it? |

It was the guy behind the counter at the Loginout facility (which is the standard dropoff point). I don't have the address with me, but it's readily available on the BMW ED web site. I had arranged my Saturday dropoff well in advance of my trip via the info provided. (And the photos they provide at the Welt when you pick up the car are almost as helpful as the photos posted here.)

I had washed mine the night before and parked on the street. Next morning was drop off and flight back home. Obviously, it rained by the time we got to the airport. Atleast the bugs were out.
When I picked at my dealer in NY it was very dirty. I had told my CA not to touch/clean the car, as he wanted to put it thru a regular car wash or charge me $200 for detailing it. Got it detalied for $45 by a local guy... |

Eek! My service guy knows to ask before putting my car through their brushless car wash. I assume the car will be freshly detailed when I get it, which I'm hoping will be this week. Then I'll do my own detailing.

We're talking about dropping our cars off after European Delivery. In my case, that would put my dealer about 3,800 miles (6200 KM) away.

It sounded like they tried to charge masti99 $200 to clean his car after it arrived at his dealer. Last edited by TimeFor; 09-08-2011 at 02:43 AM.. |

Ooooh. Yeah, I expect it to be detailed perfectly on re-delivery for no charge.
