I'd love to have the euro 535d with 313hp.

Hi remmib! I heard, the taxation for cars is heavy in Norway: something like huge registration fee etc., right? How it is in your country, any difference for new and used ones?

We don't have 535d 313 hp officially supplied to Russia. So I've got the 530d xDrive with 258 hp, and then Hartge or Steinbauer box can make it 309 hp. The gearbox ZF GA8HP70Z (same as on 535d and 550i) is made to easily pass the torque upgraded from 560 to 670 Nm.

But the more I drive, then less I need that extra power in city traffic

Yes, there's a registration fee, it's based on power, weight and emisions, and they increase progressively.

Still BMW sells very well her. Actually so far this year, BMW is the third most selling car manufacturer in Norway, only beat by VW and Toyota.

It's nice to see the diesels gain traction in the US. The line is quite complete these days. The only downside is that, as opposed to Europe, diesel tends to be more expensive in the US vs. regular gasoline. You have to do the math to see if it makes sense. For me, when choosing my X5, the diesel version wouldn't have been worth it when you look at the economics, even with perhaps better mileage out of the 35d.

In our country (we have quite similar fuel prices) diesel was 30% cheaper just a couple years ago, when nobody actually needed it. But then after wide selection of modern diesels introduced by all European brands, people started to buy it. So fuel company responded immediately, and we are all evidents of it. Now the diesel price in Moscow city is equal to gasoline, something like 90 cent per liter = 3.4 USD/gal, on winter it is a little bit more expensive due to the frost resistant components added.

However, considering the avg. fuel consumption is still 50% less, it is interesting. On the highway my 258 hp car runs at 6 liter per 100 km (i.e. 39 miles per gallon). See the picture below: that was a regular trip to my friend living in 85 miles away in rural area, avg. speed was not so good due to traffic, 58 km/h = 38 mph. Much better numbers can be achieved with longer and faster trips. So diesel is not only economic, but also fun Actually, I feel even more fun than economy, honestly it would be strange to chase for fuel savings on luxury sedan worth 80k USD.

But what is really important to me (and most of the urban drivers): the N63 engine when running idle in traffic jams and at traffic lights, gets extremely carbonized, eating oil and technically suffering, and it is known to all dealers. The great BMW gasoline engines need freedom of highway, when the colder and more economic diesels cope with city traffic perfectly. If I would live in rural, I would buy the V8 N63.
