Just Dynoed my Dinan Stage 2 550i

I have my car getting installed a custom exhaust at Active Autoworks here in Miami and they did a pull with my car on their Mustang Dynojet..

The numbers look good 385lbs of tourque at the wheels and 369hp at the wheels

Does anyone know how much power is lost between the crank and the wheels on the F10 550i?

Once we put the exhaust we will Dyno it again, I will then go to Stage 3 and do another pull.. Ill keep posting my results for you guys to see

THE CAR:
2012 550i
Dinan Stage 2
Factory Exhaust
H&R Springs

Nice gains. Are you getting their downpipes as well?

Very interested to see your next set of results!

I think that the Mustang numbers are pretty low compared to Dynojet and other dynos out there. With a 15% drivetrain loss, a stage 2 Dinan 550 should be putting down 415-425hp to the wheels (assuming 501hp advertised at the crank). I would not expect a huge difference with stage 3 and axle back exhaust..maybe 6-8 hp at the wheels. Not sure if you are getting a custom full exhaust...as that should give you significantly more power.

15% IS THE RULE OF THUMB. NOT SURE IF THAT'S TRUE FOR A MUSTANG DYNO JET...

THIS PUTS YOU AT 424WHP AND 443FTLBS. NOT THE ADVERTISED #'S BUT STILL DAMN IMPRESSIVE.

Yeah i don't think your tune is working. You are only getting about 420hp. Which is much much lower than the Dinan advertised 501hp.

Actually Stock 550i were dyno at 380 wheel hp. So you are pretty much stock.

You should get it check out.

Don't worry about absolute numbers. There are too many variables to consider. The gains from stock are really good in those graphs and that's what is important - it looks like you are somewhere north of +70hp at the wheels at peak with a bunch of power picked up throughout the entire curve.

People making assumptions by looking at the absolute numbers only have no idea what they are talking about.

ACTIVE autowerks reads lower you can see his stock baseline was around 310 so compare the two

My F10 550i dynoed stock at 320 whp at a Mustang Dynomemeter. Not sure if the versions of the Mustang dyno give different numbers. Haven't got to re-dyno since I installed the AR Downpipes and Hartge ECU. Will post if done.

So is Dinan Stage 2 just an ECU tune?

Yes. This apples to apples dyno run also confirms what I already know. BMW bullshitted about HP and Torque numbers with the n63 the same way they did with the n54 (until they de-tuned the n54).

BMW advertises ~400/450 for the n63 but the real numbers are 30-40 higher. Same reason - so as not to further poach the M version of the same vehicle.

Everything relies on boost. The Dinan tune gets the n63 up around 14psi, 2.5 or so over stock.

Stage 2 is advertised an ECU tune / re-flash.

Stage 3 is exhaust work + an ECU tune.

So it looks like you two had almost identical output on a Mustang Dyno. ~320whp @ 5100rpm's or so.

Actually, the Dinan tune is about 4-5 psi higher than stock ~9psi.

Mustang Dynos are notoriously lower reading than most other Dynos out there. As Alextremo said, the only important thing is the delta between the stock and tuned runs.

I'm pretty certain the n63 boosts to 11.6 psi @ 10:1 compression.

The n63's tuning potential is limited mostly by its intake design.

99% of the engineering difference between the s63 and the n63 exists in the intake design. With the s63, air is shot directly to the turbos through the intake boxes. With the n63, the air must circulate through an upper and lower portion of each intake. These boxes function as air restrictors.

I agree there's a convoluted route for the air to enter the engine, but I'm not sure we're seeing evidence of the engine being starved for air. Especially if you look at the dyno in this thread, seems to stay pretty strong at higher rpm which I wouldn't expect to see if air restriction was causing power loss. Maybe someone will come out with an intake soon and show good gains - one can hope...

As someone else stated, don't worry about the absolute numbers, the number you should pay attention to is the difference from stock to tuned on the same dyno.

I see two problems with your dyno graph. The first is that the stock pull is not your car and was done months before. While the same dyno, you want to eliminate as many variables as possible. The temperature, humidity, fan speed and oh yeah, it's not your car are all different.

Second, your car only had an increase of 34 ft/lbs of torque and 46 of hp. Those should be around 100 and 85 respectively according to the Dinan website (I already subtracted 15 percent from claims since their numbers are at the crank).

The best would have been to do back to back pulls with your car but even so, your increase in torque and hp are way low.

I understand and because of this I've asked them to do another pull.. They claim that using the Mustang Dynojet we loose about 23% of power between the engine and the wheels...

I will do a few more pulls and if the numbers dont get better I will have a talk with Dinan

I am doing exhaust now and was thinking of going to stage 4 but if the numbers dont make sense I might just stop here... Is there anyone from Dinan on this forum?
