If you did, do you regret the decision? Happy without it?
I'm still torn on whether to include SAT in my upcoming F10 order. I'm not big on paddle shifters, never use them in my current 335i, and while the leather wrapped shifter is nice, I can live without it (and spend my money elsewhere). |

I ordered a 535i x-drive M-Sport without SAT. I don't think I'll regret it, but I don't get it until late May. Like you, I don't use the paddles, and my money is better spent elsewhere (ie M-Sport) rather than on a $500 shifter. In fact I left off that and comfort access as justification for the M-Sport.
Interestingly, the loaner I got today is a 2011 528i Sport, loaded to the gills, including SAT. I played with the paddles a bit, wasn't too impressed, though that could be attributed to the engine. |

I may be wrong, but there is more to SAT than just paddles. I too don't use the paddles, but I am glad I ordered the SAT (actually it comes with the sport package in Canada). With SAT there are 3 transmission modes to select from, normal, sport and sport+. At first I drove the car in normal mode, but now I drive 90% of the time in sport mode and the car is just more fun to drive in sport mode. I can't drive it in normal mode anymore, except when cruising on the highway. In normal mode, the car is always in too high a gear and with 8 gears, it is always looking for a better one. In sport mode, the shift points are higher, and the transmission will hold a gear as you go around a corner, in normal mode, the car upshifts as you corner unless you are accelerating hard. I think it is definitely worth a test drive with both transmissions before you commit. That being said, if you never have it, you won't know you're missing it!

I think the following thread is the most definitive statement on this topic:
http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=416668 Yes, it's more than just the paddles - aside from the shift points you mentioned, the steering is also changed as well, a change you don't get with DHP by itself. |

I assume that since mine has hydraulic steering (x-drive), the steering doesn't change when I select sport mode. I forgot to mention, 8th gear is locked out, and the accelerator is much more sensitive in sport mode, so the throttle mapping is also changed. The way the accelerator and shift points change makes it worth it for me, a different car in normal vs. sport.
