Multi-contour seats worth it?
So I am planning on purchasing an F10 and was wondering if the multi-contour seats were worth it or if you could live without them. I know for the e92 3 series, everyone raved about the sports seats. Does this still hold true for the 5 series?
Thanks! Last edited by Bjorn; 07-12-2011 at 03:14 PM.. |

Honestly and this is my opinion the multicontour seats are a must. They just make the car look totally different even from the outside. The rear seating clearnce will be impacted by this so if you have kids/older children you might be decreasing their space and in my case find a lot if shoe marks on the back of your seat. The seating position in the F10 is quite fenicky though and it took me a while to find my sweet spot. I find this was not the case in the E60 I am not sure why. The one thing I miss is the lateral bolsters which somehow got missed in the F10 not sure intentionally or not. I would say you should try out a demo with the multicontour seats to see how you feel about them.

Re your comment about the adjustable side bolsters; my F10 has them (controlled by two additional buttons) and they hold you in really well - I seem to recall reading something about this with regard to the difference between UK and US specced cars. |

Aaa you're right. I meant the sport seats from the sports package.
I guess I'll have to go back in and do a side-by-side comparison between the seats. I have tried sitting on both seats before, but that was with a week in between. Both seats were quite comfortable |

Having owned a Sport 335i and now the 535i with the multi-contour seats, it isn't even close. The 535i seats are nicer. I think you get them with the Sport Package in the U.S. anyway. Won't you be getting the Sport Package on your F10?

I have the same experience. The (e92) sport seat are great but not in the same league as the multi-contour seats.

Add me to the list of those that rave about the multi-contour seating. Its great for long drives...especially the thigh adjustment; the thigh adjustment protudes forward and provides an indiscribable level of comfort. I've seen no other luxury car with that that adjustment. With 19 different adjustments who can beat that!

Strange thing is a LOT of people who ride in my car don't like them, and the first adjustment they make is to retract them. I'm 5' 7" (170 cm), and I like them fully extended, even with my not-so-long legs.

I have the sports package with my 535 so it came with the multi-contour seats and I am very happy that I have them. It is amazing how many adjustments you can make with these seats. You should try them out.

Yes, they are worth it. Sure you could live without them, but why would you want to?

I got the Comfort-seats "blind" since I didnt have a chance to try them before, and thought that maybe I went too far paying so much for something I didnt really know.
But Im so happy I got them now, they really are extremly comfortable. When sitting in my old e39 with sport-seats felt like sitting on a stone-bench in comparison. Ofcourse those seats are 10 years old now, but still.

I, for one, tried the multi-contour seats and found them no better than the stock seats which, BTW are very, very good. Another consideration. The rear seat room on the F10 is already a bit tight with the regular seats. With the muti-contour seats this reduces rear seat room even more. When I have four people in my car I want them to be comfortable and not feel as if they're not crammed in. If I wanted that I would have opten for a 3 series (lol). All the multi-contour seats added that I could see was the extendable rear seat cushion, something I neither needed nor liked. I'd save the $1300 and pick up something else.

After 9k miles in my F10, I consider this option to be one of the very best. Expensive, yes, but worth every penny - in my opinion. |

I wasn't sure how much I'd like it when I got my first car with it -- a 2000 E39 540i/6. First time I drove the car, I extended it, loved it, and have always driven that way in every car I've had since them. I leave it that way all the time.
