Yeah, I've heard as much. Still, I'd like to have a RWD BMW now that I'm moving to a more reasonable climate (Northern VA, currently in Minnesota). But if you can't put the power down, I guess there's not much of a point..

Just picked up my 550i xDrive M Sport in Munich last week.

Any news on engine tuning?

Hey Shiv - any update on this? Dinan is getting nice updates with just a flash. Wondering what this says about the tune-ability of the N63 v the N54 if they're upping the boost this much being "Dinan conservative" and without any supporting hardware...

D900-44T5

The results of Dinan’s tuning are nothing short of breathtaking, with the added boost and related re-calibration producing a maximum output of 495 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 573 lb-ft torque at 3500 rpm.
This item is worth 2 point(s) towards your Dinan Badge.

Product Description
The legendary 5 Series has been reincarnated with the F10 chassis and the N63 4.4L V8 turbo motor. The beauty of the turbo motor is its ability to be tuned to make impressive gains just by upgrading the engine software and the N63 motor is no different. The results of Dinan’s tuning are nothing short of breathtaking, with the added boost and related re-calibration producing a maximum output of 495 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 573 lb-ft torque at 3500 rpm. The Dinan Performance Engine Software safely increases turbo-boost pressure from the stock 9.8 to 14.0 psi, along with properly retuned fuel mixtures, ignition timing and full map rescaling. In fact, over 2000 lines of code have been addressed, producing substantial increases in power output while maintaining the civility and reliability expected of a Dinan performance product. With Dinan’s software, your 550i will be capable of achieving its natural top speed as the governor has been removed. And as always, Dinan matches the new car warranty coverage for up to 4 years or 50,000 miles, including the possibility of consequential damages. No one offers better performance or backs it up with such comprehensive warranty coverage.

N54 with mods tune and meth/race gas gets a 55% power increase from 270rwhp to around 420rwhp.

If the N63 got a more modest 35% increase in power it would still be going from 390rwhp to 526rwhp.

If we were to get the same 55% increase it would go from 390rwhp to 605 rwhp!

I hear the % increase thought, but IDK where you got 390rwhp. Bone stock 550s put down around 340whp, which is pretty healthy given BMW's 400hp claim. AA already released software for it, and got a 37whp/44wtq delta. Considering that this software probably has left power on the table (think about where the N54 was when it was first released), I'm sure we can expect more, even though the very sharp fall off in power is a bit disconcerting when you think about it's potential...but as of right now, 340ish is what they start with, and 380ish seems to be the peak.

Oh, I got it from Edmunds which dyno's at MD Automotive.

Same place where the 335i dyno's around 275 rwhp i believe.

Ok, went ahead and got my 550i flashed with Dinan stage 1 (sorry Shiv, couldn't wait for you buddy). Results are impressive to say the least.

I would caution all of you coming from the 3 series (as I did) that the 550i is (and drives like) a huge car *curb weight is around 4,400lbs, and believe me you feel all of it*.

My 335 was far more "fun" to drive, but I'm trying to get back to driving *under* the speed limit

I agree the 5 is very heavy, and you feel it with every move you make.

I'm also looking into getting a re-flash on my 550i. Can you Please elaborate and give more info on your impression and experience with the power difference?
Any lag? when does the power come in? Mid range, Low end?
Any info would be appreciated.

No lag at all. Haven't had chance to test out power (read: HP) for top end performance as weather & roads here haven't allowed. Significant torque improvement especially noticeable from 2000-5000 rpm. On dry road(s) the traction control indicator lights up on first 3 upshifts.

Too bad the car is so heavy ..... wondering what the new M5 will be like *and where they can strip 400lbs or so*

Damn I wish someone would do a before and after dyno of the dinan software. When I do mine I'll make sure to do that but being that it's been sitting at the Paris airport for over four weeks and was told by the guy they have "no plans" to ship it out yet it may be like three more months before I get it. BMW really has a horrible shipping agent it's ruining the whole ED experience for me.

Thanks Calgary Agent

2-5000 rpm is the range where I do most of my driving. Sounds like a perfect modification for this car.

If possible, as the weather gets better maybe you can give us some more info on performance differences or 0-60, 0-100 times.
my stock 550 did 0-100 in 10.5 and 10.6 sec on 54 degree F night. I will clock it again after I get the dinan re flash in 1-2 months.

If the F10 M5 is not going to loose weight, I will get the next generation M3 instead.
I can't enjoy a car that is not tossable
