Stuck in park, very slow or no crank, hot ground wire

Hi Guys!

2013 528i x drive

The other day it stalled out and kicked into neutral while driver. Got it towed to my place. It is now stuck in park, it will crank sometimes but it is very slow for about four seconds and cuts out or just clicks.

I will note it had a new chain and chain guides put in about a month ago and has ran perfect since.

New battery was put in, no change. Ground wire gets hot when trying to start. I was able to turn over the central bolt so the engine is not frozen. I checked the front jump point and it is showing 12.6 V as well as the battery. The hot wire going to the alternator is showing the same. Tried jumping from the front jump points, it would slowly crank but did the same as before.

Could it be a blown fuse, ground strap, or maybe starter?

I'm going to lift it later today after work to see what the strap looks like.

Have you managed to fix the problem? I have a 520d f10 2013 automatic. It was running well after routine timing belt change 3000 miles or so. Then start showing every error possible on scree. Did Ok for all and was running for another 1000 miles. Errors reappeared and it got stuck in N with warning of rolling. Battery was 10 years old original, replaced, registered etc. still couldn’t get out of N. Then did a (transmission) reset flooring accelerator pedal. It seemed to have worked. (Also used the spare key fob). I booked to take car to a transmission specialist who looked and said there is nothing wrong. Replaced transmission oil and on the drive back home 50km or so, ran fine. Stopped the car, 3 hours later went to start, starts fine but will not move out of Park.
Wondering did you get your problem fixed. Share any thoughts you may have.
