So i have a 2012 BMW 550iX I just bought it and i wanted to upgrade the software and NAV etc. when i enter my VIN on bmw.com/update it just says error, i've seen there are basically 3 options "your software is up to date" / "here is the update for your car" / and "an error has occurred"
so me being me got VINs from some other 2013 BMW 550iX on cars.com and entered it and it allowed me to download this update "UPD05081.bin"

I noticed that all the other 550iX VINs i was entering every single file was "UPD05081.bin" so i came to the conclusion that this update would also work on my car regardless, Am I correct in this sense or am i wrong what do you think?

after that I put the UPD05081.bin on 3 flash drives NTFS/FAT32/FAT no extra folders or files on these

plugged it into both the usb port in armrest and glovebox but neither allowed the software update to move forward it basically doesnt recognize there is an update on there, however it does recognize the flash drives because in the multimedia screen it shows the name of the flash drive

so this all stemmed after I took my new car into the dealer and was asking about the software upgrade during an initial inspection (i always do this its free) and got into a technical debate with the shop foreman because he said when they update these for customers they just download it from bmw.com/update which i thought was strange and since it says error on website so how would they be able to do it if that was the case?
long story short i called BMW N.A. and they said the dealers absolutely have resources (like file server or central repository of some sort) and if they dont know they need to contact their field reps

and from Service advisor papers it shows this
Software version /updates
Current level of the vehicle: F010-15-11-503
Software update available: Yes

Navigation System: Road Map North America Premium 2012

so wondering from you guys A. I believe i have solid software update why wont my car let me install it and B. anybody know anything about "an error has occurred" when entering your VIN? (BMW acknowledged their is some issue with this part of their website but wouldn't give me any details)

so the latest version is posted here you can only use UPD01008.bin if you search this file name you should be able to find it everything updated correctly

Hello brother, are this version of UPD01008.bin is same for BMW F01 series or not. When i put VIN in bmw website for update i get this An error has occurred. Please try again later.

Funny thing, the site says my VIN is from a 2013; my car is a 2014
