2013 F10 - Can't Order Rear View Camera without Park Distance Control??

Okay okay, before we get into the debate of the benefits of the rear view cameras as compared to the park distance control - I was just told by my dealer that they cannot order my F10 with just the rear view camera as a stand alone option, "but must be ordered with the park distance control."

Is this true?

I think this was always the case...

Trust me, you want it anyway. My Acura has a camera, and I still managed to back into something out of view. You want the beeps.

So, assuming that everyone agrees that I have to buy them together (everyone?), I have a choice:

1) Buy the Rear View Camera and the Park Distance Control together (For around $1,050

or

2) Buy the Driver Assistance Package (for $1,730), which includes the Rear View Camera, Park Distance Control, Active Blind Spot Detection and Side and Top View Cameras.

So, for the extra $680, are the Active Blind Spot Detection and Side and Top View Cameras worth it? Why do I need to have cameras on the side of my car?

The side/top and active blind are "cool" but really not needed in the end.. PDC and Rear Cam are needed though.
I would do it cause fuck it, its just $680 but to some people thats a lot and not worth it.

While active blind spot detection and side view could be debated, the top view feature (using the cameras under the rear mirrors) is an absolute must with such a large car. I.e. really helps avoiding curb rash while maneuvering in tight parking situations.

Top view alone is well worth $680; the F10 is a big car and the rearward vision is very restricted. You'll appreciate every reversing aid there is.

For me i went with option one. I rather use that extra money on soft close doors instead.

I don't like to rely too much on gizmos to help me do the basics of driving. I feel like over time you rely on them too much and ultimately you forget how to do things without them.

If you have problem parallel parking a car, the top view can help.

Just the front and rear park sensors here in Europe. Other stuff is for women

Normally I would agree, but the combination of large comfort seats and a 63 year old back makes twisting round to look out of the rear window somewhat awkward, if not bordering on being painful.
Add in the fact that, thanks to a transmission which snaps into neutral as soon as you open the door, you can't lean out for a rearward look.
So, personally speaking, I'm grateful for any bit of technology which helps me avoid denting my car.

Trust me - as another Acura owner (and BMW F10 owner for two years), PDC is *definitely* worth it. Front cameras/360-degree view is nice, but worth $680? Maybe.

I'd invest that in rear climate control.

I miss it on my Acura MDX. Parking my Nissan GT-R is now a nightmare (w/o camera and w/o PDC).

Driver Assistance Package is great! I enjoy using rear view camera and active blind spot detection. My wife loves top view cameras. She finally stopped scratching my rims lol. Never needed to use the side view cameras btw.

If I get the rear camera, will the bigger screen in the dash be fitted ??

I have not seen any cars with backup camera and the smaller screen ...

Top view camera is a must. Even if it saves you from scraping one rim, the $680 is worth the fury you'd feel if you did.

Top View is awesome. You will also enjoy the occasional hilariousness of having friends scratching their heads wondering how the car can be filmed from above. LOL

I also use the side view cameras daily when I exit the building underground parking into a busy street with obstructed view. For $680, it is a no brainer. Go for #2!

Many options, packages have changed since MY 2011 550ix. I don't even think it was part of an option list. It came standard up in Canada. I have just PDC with no RVC. But PDC is a must. ! Go with #1

Spend the extra money. I often pop on the Surround View to confirm where a curb is, where parking lot lines are and a possible wayward tree that seems closer than it is.
I use the Side view cameras for exiting blind areas and use the Active Blind Spot as a reinforcement of where vehicles are beside me.
If you do a lot of slow city driving the Active Blind Spot has a low threshold speed of 30 mph/50kph so it is NOT useful at very slow speeds.
As others have noted, you only need to save yourself one curb rash or dent to justify the cost.
I'd get them again.

Ditra,

This is very good advice. I was also skeptical about whether I even needed cameras and thought the concept was ridiculous since I consider myself a good driver. In hindsight I am extremely grateful that I listened to the advice on this board and paid the extra $$ for the side/top cameras. I use the top view cameras every time I drive this big car and they have more than paid for themselves since I have yet to scratch my rims. I rarely use the side view cameras. But IMO the top view cameras are one of the best non-performance options to you can get on this car. I will always get this option for my future vehicles. Good luck.
