Cooling fan overuse

A lot of times when I finish a journey - even if driving economically - the cooling fan is running when I switch the engine off. It may run for 5-10 mins after the car is stopped.

The oil temp guage is never any higher than the mid point level.

When it was in for a service the dealer found no fault codes.

Wondering if anyone else has this issue?

I occasionally used to experience the same with my 535d, but it's not something I ever worried about.

I think it's the particulate filter, it's cleaned out by heat and the engine deliberately running hot... It can increase the mpg by always running... Particularly if you're doing lots of short runs...

Yes this is undoubtedly what it is. I had the same issue with my A6 and thought there was something wrong with it. I called Audi on one occasion and the service department sent out a breakdown guy who, on arrival, told me that he had been called out to several Audi and BMW owners thinking their car was overheating. He was frustrated at the lack of understanding at the dealerships and even had an Audi booklet in his van which explained the particulate cleaning! Pity I didn’t get one of these booklets when I bought the car!!

Thanks for the info guys. It just seems to do it an awful lot though - 3 or 4 times in the last week. I never noticed my old 335d coupe doing it at all (more or less the same engine)
