Pretty sure that's what's happening. Doesn't sound good to me but time marches on.

I am usually one to give manufacturers the benefit of the doubt and look forward to trying their engineering but I am with you on that bodonx, cant think of why a car the size and dynamic of an F10 would benefit from a 4cyl, guess the greenie weenie's have penetrated deep into BMW.

My other concern is that although this 4cyl derived from N55 (if I am not mistaken), I would not buy a first-year engine.
N55 is not a reliable engine too. However, BMW has tried to fix I-6 HPFP issues since 2007 (since N54). |

30 more ft-lbs at lower RPM Probably less weight over the nose. Aside from a bit of lag, and a lack of the noise....what's the issue? |

My head says it's ok.
My heart says it isn't.

I don't care too much as long they keep building the mighty straight 6 as well.

In this class (F10), the smoothness of an engine take a priority over 10% gas mileage saving I think.
For 1 or 3 series, where agility is a priority, I can see Turbo I-4 as a better alternative. |
