iPod Album Art Size
I have done a couple of searches; however, I wasn't able to find any post that answered this question. In my friend's 2011 X3, the album cover art is very big, much bigger than mine; it also has the ability to cycle through songs using the idrive controller. In my 2011 535 the album art is much smaller and the songs are listed underneath of the album information. Is there an idrive update that changes this?
**I don't need the bmw y-cable; I connect my ipod directly into the usb port. Thanks for any help you guys can give!!!! |

I take it you don't have navigation. I don't either and the album art is a small square, maybe 1" by 1". I think with navigation you can select split screen to get album art to show up larger.

Perhaps on the X3 he's using the "iPod out" interface via BMW Apps vs the built in BMW interface?

On my F10 have the media cradle for the iPhone 4 and also have an iPod permanently connected to the USB.
I get the large artwork (about 3" x 3") when a track is playing and the small artwork (about 1" x 1") in the search mode (which, as the OP says, allows cycling through using the iDrive controller). It's a 2012 car, with pro-media and the iPhone connectivity options. I'm not using the "BMW Connected" App to get the above artwork, but it's also available if I want it... |

Yes, that's the same as in my F10 when on the track playing screen - and smaller pics when in search mode.
Incidentally on mine, I also get a video symbol to choose in the left hand menu, on the screen that you are showing: think that might be a 2012 thing, as the dealer was quite surprised to see it during the car handover last month. Last edited by islandnipper; 11-13-2011 at 11:31 AM.. |

Please excuse the poor quality of these pics: I took them just now, but it's now pitch dark so I had to push the ISO of the camera and try to hold very still!
This first one is the equivalent screen of the X3 pic above... the track writing is very small on this particular album, but the pic is big. Also note the extra video choice in the middle of the menu bar (sorry, you can't see the symbol very well). I also get the next two screens, showing album art. This is still using the same iPhone 4, but selecting the "plug-in" menu option rather than CD/Multimedia. This is the small album art in the album listing... ...and back to the large art in the playback screen. This is a 2012MY F10; not sure what all the options are related to the iPhone connectivity, but I asked the dealer to specify whatever was needed on my order... (I'll try to find out, but I'm sure others here will know before I can find out...) |

This is a photo of the "iPod Out" interface of iOS. This displays Apple's menu structure instead of BMW's. This interface was not in the original combox that allowed for album art (post September 2010 builds), I believe it was added in the spring of this year. Not sure but it may be/probably is tied to the BMW apps option.

Maybe this will help you rule out some variables.
I also get an artwork like post #5 and I have a 2012 535 without the snap-in adapter. I have an ipod permanently connected to the usb socket. |
