If you have loads of cash to blow, the AFE seems worth a shot. Otherwise the Burger F10 N55 intake is good value. Note that the burger (anmd perhaps the AFE) will not make a huge difference in power. Mostly in sound and feel.
Good luck! |

To be honest, don't waste your money on an intake. I have the Burger intake. No noticeable increase in power which I expected, but no real sound increase either. I might actually sell mine soon. I am quite underwhelmed by it.

Get the Burger Tuning intake, sounds great and will get you more Hp.
When used without a tune it will give you 5-10 whp. you will not notice it unless you dyno your car, but if you add a JB4 the intake will be a must since you will need all the air you can get to achieve maximum boost.

Seriously air intakes are a waste of money. You wont feel the extra couple of HP... in fact you wont feel an extra 10 hp. Take that money and go invest in a couple shares of stock. the 5er isnt ever going to be a race car. Enjoy it for what it is.

I've got a 2011 535 and both burger tuning and afe intakes. The BMS intake has the cool whistle sound and well that's about it. The afe slightly makes the car a little more responsive but you lose the whistle sound. IMO if you want to burn some cash just get BMS one cause it's cheap. If you want power get a tune

Hi I am new to this forum and BMW. I just got a 2012 535i xdrive and was interested in getting a cold air intake. Are you referring to the Magnum Pro Force Stage 2 for AFE? It says you gain 32 HP. Is that BS? Also what is the difference between Pro Dry S and Pro 5R?

If it was designed like the F30 335i N55 intake then it would be worth it. The 335's goes directly from the grille to the turbo. Thats a real CAI. The difference between a dry filter or oiled is the oil from the filter might ruin the MAF sensor. Save your money and buy a tune if you want a bump in performance. If you want sound then get an axel back exhaust.

I really like how the AFE intake looks, but the price tag on it new is way out in left field IMO.
I wonder if it would make much difference if you installed a lower side heat shield on the turbo inlet pipe, it wouldn't be that hard to fashion one from the same corrugated aluminum BMW uses as exhaust head shielding.... or even gold foiled the underside of the tube itself... or both! |

yes, as you can get them for less then $50 brand new. The only downside with oil filter is that they require re oil maintenance once in a while. Turbo spooling is about 15-20% louder with drop in filter from my experience.

I've had oil filters in my Acura/Honda so washing them and re-oiling them is nothing new to me but I am interested in the fact you said the Turbo spooling is louder
