Battery replacement gone wrong!

Today I was replacing my battery and while putting the new one in I over tightened the positive clamp and broke the nut

I'm gonna get one from the junkyard since the dealer want me to buy the whole cable. However, I need to know how to get the red plastic cover out?

I’m not sure how serviceable the “safety” terminal is. It actually has a small explosive charge within that detonates in the case of an accident to sever the current to the starter/alternator.

This is the nut I'm gonna need to replace! I'm not sure if there's a way to do it from the bottom, will look back in to it in the morning!

That part in your picture is available (clamp bolt and nut for your battery terminal) all over the internet for $5 up to $10.....and in your original picture, it looks like your clamp bolt broke, not the nut, but even if you did break your nut, all is included for $8 (average price)

Example on Amazon....

Yeah you can't really tell from the picture but that's just what left of the nut! I broke the nut from the tip and I'll source one out soon.

However, I'm having an issue getting the clamp loose of the red plastic so I can get the broken nut out.

I did the same thing. Left it as. That was about three years ago.

This is a picture of the clamp from the bottom and the broken nut is located within the circle border

I wish I could leave it like that but I need to tight in my air suspension management system to it and there is no way it can be held with out it

As seen on this picture taken before I broke that nut

I can't help you with your question but in future here is one tip
when you tightening clamps on battery tighten until you feel resistance
then tighten quarter of turn you should be good

*****PROBLEM SOLVED*****

Just an update about how I ended up dealing with this! I've got it fixed for only $5!

In case anyone running into the same issue, all you need is to get a new nut, you don't need to buy a new cable for $$$. I got a used nut off a negative terminal from the junk yard. I had my cable taken out from the car, set it on a table and used (pry tool & small screw driver).

I decided to get it out from the red plastic/rubber underneat it by squeezing the screw driver to get into the top side of the nut so I can push it up and used the pry tool to left up the red plastic/rubber just a little enough to have a room for it so I can pull it out! You don't need to cut or damage the red plastic/rubber. It's quit frustrating but relatively easy.

Got it out and put in the one I got in the same way but also used a small hammer in the final stage to get It pushed in. Installed the cable back to the car and connected my new batter and everything worked just fine.

Thank you guys for the input! I really appreciate it!
