Aftermarket M-sport bumper fitment (UPDATED)

Hi Guys,

Just a little update of what i have done this weekend plus letting whoever wants to know how the fitment of aftermarket M-sport bumper look like.

Aftermarket M-sport front bumper (from perpetualonlineracing.com)
Aftermarket Black glossy double slats grill (from rgsportshop.com)
Installation: Westminster Collision works
Diffuser carbon fiber wrap (do it myself)

I actually really love the way the bumper look. Fitment...i would say 95%-98% compare to OEM depend on your taste. I noticed 2 things thou...... I guess it's just something you get when you going with aftermarket.

1. The headlamp washer actually did't sit real tight as the OEM. It won't fall off. I don't think so, just a bit loose but still attached (of course). I asked the shop if they can use my OEM one but they said the clips are different

2. There is actually a small (not big deal) gap between fender and bumper. In fact my shop said the bumper is a bit tight but it should be fine. I guess that is why. Actually i remember that i read somewhere, some of the other aftermarket bumper has this issue too

Those are the only 2 things. Other than that, it's super nice. Nice material, same as OEM. Everything else lines up so well. The bumper pretty is much spot on. I didn't do the installation myself but the shop gave me back my old bumper, fogs, support bar....That's pretty much it. That's being said no modified or cutting or extra unused parts.

For those who concerns about brake duct and oil coolant duct, i used to worry about the same thing. I don't know about other aftermarket bumper, but this one for brake duct, they actually designed it just like OEM with 2 pathways that lead air to the brake duct (2 pathways on both side of the center lower grill). For air coolant duct, i decided to take off the solid cover behind the honeycomb fog light (2 layers, honeycomb then there was a solid piece behind it) so there you go, air can go in.

I'm glad i bought the double slats gloss grill at rgsportshop.com. There shipping is super fast. The item fits very well. IMO, it change the look big time.

The wrapping part, i did it myself. I'm no pro so...i don't know how long it would last LOL.....Oh well, i just want to test out the look anyway.

Here are some photos for your references:

Looks pretty good and appreciate your opinion on the aftermarket bumper! It really gives people an idea on fitment issues from the vendors here. Grills came out awesome! Still deciding whether to go single or double?

I did the same and have the same issue as you with the washer covers. I'm going to take the bumper off next month to add the proper m sport foam bumper support. I'm determined to get it to sit flush. I will update you on my findings. As for the bumper hook cover. File it at the edges and it will sit flush also.

it fits great! I finally decided to go with non M-sport front lip which is 3D design front lip. I hope it is gonna fit well. I do not expect it will be totally perfect, but I hope it should be almost perfect. lol

How much it costs you for the whole oem complete set for the front? Getbmwparts quote me $1300+ just for all the part.

Updated

Updated.

First of all, thanks for Skeeter_f10 to let me know what needed to be done to get better fitment.

So for those of you who want to have aftermarket msport bumper installed, in order to get good fitment, you HAVE TO remove the slow speed absorber foam. I heard some decided to trim it down (make it thinner), some decided just to remove it (like i did). Here is mine after removing the foam. Look at the before and after photos, you will see the gaps at fender improved a lot.

I know by law, you should have that absorber but since it's a slow speed thing....so i guess i just try to drive carefully instead.

So again bumper fitment isn't bad at all. But one thing thou...(decide for yourself if you can live with it).....look at the photo that i took when i sat down on the ground, the bottom part......it's ridiculous....I mean you can't see if you stand but yeah...that is how the bottom will look like (at least for my kit). It just doesn't fit right at the bottom..... The only way i can think of is putting some lip to cover that up.

I see that bottom part on most of the pictures guys post on here....I always wondered that?

Your talking about the ripple at the bottom of the bumper right? If you end up getting a lip or something It'll cover it up

Lol yes, that's where i'm talking about, the ripple at the bottom. Since you think the same as i think, which is a lip would cover that up, do you know how a lip got install onto the bumper? I mean where they will screw it on? Or just by 3M tape? or how?

Because thinking about it, if the bottom part is already like that.....how would the lip fit on nicely since i'm thinking it has to be screwed on with the under engine cover just like with the bumper....

Thanks

Update: I came back to the shop, we tried to fix it. Drill 2 more holes. It's better now. I think I could live with this. Also, just black out my window trim. Took me quite awhile but love it

I think it's normal. Whatever lip you go with it's always installed with screws and 3M tape.
